Unread post viewing time (again)

It just happened again so I thought id come and have another whinge.

Heres my tonights experience on mp3car forums

1) Arrive on forum, last visit was day before yesterday
2) quickly flick through interesting new posts in displays forum
3) move to faq forum, quick check in the 2 new posts
4) move to newbies forum, cant resist posting a message in one of the threads, time taken, 10 minutes if that.
5) Check post for typos and return to the newbie forum main page

BAST**D FORUM HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!

All my unread posts are now marked as read posts and I have no idea what ive read and what Ive not read- ive not even been to half the forums that I usually check and the only way I have a clue what to read is by checking the date and time against the last time i think i was here.

Its not anything to do with posting, its some setting to do with inactivity, since just following a link (in a new window while keeping this forum open in its original window) is enough to trip it off and reset all my unreads to read posts.

After it happens, only people that post while im reading it get to be marked as unread- thats normal.

Now im not a vbulletin guru, if i knew exactly what setting to change id post it so can someone that knows wth is wrong with the inactivity timer set it to something realistic like an hour or something please? Right now it seems to be 5 or 10 minutes which is totally inadequate for anything but the quickest of replies.

::EDIT:: Just incase its relevant... XP Pro, Firefox 1.0.4, 2MB broadband, and no other forum does it.

If anyone knows how to fix this please PM me. I agree this is a problem... it has been on my list for months I just haven't gotten to it yet.

its something in ur settings its one little thing should be easy to fix with a few value changes

I open the new posts in tabs keeping the list on the 1st tab.

"open in new tab" is so much better than open in new window. Keeps all your porn in one browser window too incase of interuptions!

WTF? is it jsut me or has the unread post thing really messed up today?

None one the threads are showing up in my control panel fron page and all the threads are in normal font (not bold) in every section i click on this morning.

something's gone wrong.
