Better example would have been Guino with his open source Road Runner project.

Can't really be bothered to trawl through all the posts, so here goes. It's always been a policy here to clamp down on any talk of piracy - no matter how much you argue your point of view, a torrent section ain't gonna happen. I guessed you've already established that and moved on to piracy in general.... I'm not saying your points aren't valid, and I wish I were a competent enough a musician to distribute my art too.
On to the idea of a torrent section though - aside from OS's and GPS, you don't really have to buy much else in terms of software. And what people pay in terms of software is nothing compared to the amount spent on hardware - and there's some serious hardware expenditure on these forums.... There's a ton of guys working tirelessly to make this scene happen, creating new software with continuous updates, new hardware ideas coming through (which cost money which they have to pay for initially) - there's hardly anyone here who makes money from their work. Like you, their kudos is seeing people enjoy their work too. And as mentioned, Torrent sites are ten a penny out there - I really don't see the point of having one here, whether it's endorsed by the admins or not.

Yea, I found out pretty quickly no torrent section here, i was just thinking a small community of fellow p2pers to get any software they may be lacking that I or someone else would be willing to share. Or help promote mp3car members who have written programs to help us out by seeding and spamming all over like that spittersaurus from jurassic park.

Actually, Boris, FrodoBaggins, and the other gifted code jockeys on these forum are offering the current versions of their products for free.
If and when the time comes to go commercial with their respective softwares, we all will have to pony up some dollars to use the newest version of the software.

I hope they have enough success with their commecial ventures so they don't have to give away software as "advertising" or hawk t-shirts on CafePress to keep the ISP bill paid.

I'm curious, Pokiarchy. It sounds as if your musical venture (don't know if you're a solo artist or in a band) is more of a hobby or side project that you keep at in hopes that you'll one day be successful and make money at it. That's not a job. That's doing something you enjoy in your spare time.

So what is your day job?

I know that Frodo works in a manufacturing plant for his day job and codes FrodoPlayer in the spare time that Mrs. Baggins allows him to code. (I'm certain that with the new house he's spending lots of time hanging curtains and painting and ****! )

FrodoPlayer is his project right now, just as your music is your project right now. If it makes a few bucks, great. If not, it's done out of the sheer love of creating something new & unique and enjoyable/useful to others. At some point, the hope is there for BOTH OF YOU to evolve and grow to the point that this 'hobby' or 'project' will become a commercially viable product.
When that happens, the rules change, and so will you. You'll see your bread & butter being traded freely on the 'net and get angry. It will become a personal affront to you because people are taking money away from you. As a musician, you have all the other revenue streams (concerts, videos, merchandise, selling your song for a Yoohoo ad campaign, etc.). A programmer doesn't have that.
Ever seen Linus Torvalds in concert? No, you haven't.
How about that line of Windows t-shirts? They're not for sale (although you can get 'em for free if you attend their technical events).
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

Your right it is not my day job. I do not create a product for my day job so it does not apply to this conversation though... hehe and its embarassing. You are completely right with just about everything you said. Except, 1. I will not have a problem with p2p as far as my music goes, I plan on distributing it online myself, a torrent right on the main page. If someone else is trying to make a buck off of my work, thats a different story, but if 99% of people on this planet have a computer, and it's offered for free, I don't think that would be a huge problem. 2. Correct that programmers don't have traditional merchandise, but they do have the chance to sell the rights of the program to people who sell hardware or something else related to the program. Example: Frodoplayer could be packaged with lilliput screens or he could offer a coding program where, for a fee, he will do some code and add an option. There are other ways for them to make the same money. Who knows, maybe I'm not a genius and software developers will take a big hit because of p2p piracy. It's possible, I might have been wrong before. My dad is a programmer and his salary just keeps going up as piracy gets more popular, but maybe the 2 are unrelated. If frodo wants to charge for his buku better software when he takes it public, that's fine with me. I'll pay, it's a good product, but with the price of that product I'd better get a copy, a manual, a cdkey, and some tech support if needed. I'm really paying for the package, I already have the product, and there will always be the free alternative that comes with no package. He has to offer me something the other guy doesn't have and it will either be, prettier package, better package, or a history of being a superior product.

    You missed my point dude.
Life aint as black and white as you describe.

I don't condone theft and would never buy pirated software or indeed any black market goods.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had to choose the p2p route through economic necessity.
It's not like I was d/l all the latest movies/software and punting the goodies round the local pubs.

I'm not looking for a big argument here, just don't like being compared to a burglar.

He could have gone out of his way and borrowed/shared directly with someone else who had it, this way was just far more convenient, and I'm sure hes thankful for not having to mooch all semister. Don't fear the horse of a different color betches.

dude, we've all shared at one point or another.... I don't think your a burglar

I just don't think it's right to be publicly promoting this here.... & the more arguments that try to justify sharing abusively the more it does apear to be stealing & I do think that it's pretty easy to abuse this ....

the majority of the sites out there are just outright abusive, mass distribution...

    Amen brother,
Looks like we're on the same page here.

Apologies for over-reacting, saw the word thief , thought cheeky f*** (no offense) and went on a rant.
