    Hmmm.

Before I make any observations I need to look at it in more detail. But I haven't got time.

There seems to be things going on behind the forum that I am not privy to and also it would ne interesting to know what the main monkey has to say.

    anyway

I agree with Enforcer, there are a lot of things going on in the background.

MP3Car.com is about to become more commercial than ever ..... watch out open source!

I agree with all comments aboves.

Seriously but it really sucks to find out that your ideas is being use to make profit and copy-left, patent by someone else.

Yes, anything we type/said become property of mp3car.com and that was stated clearly when we sign up. mp3car.com is as a community or as a brand? Until streetdesk came out as commercial software, I still think mp3car.com as a community, but not any more.

It's sad to see a lots of great ideas, stupid thought being withhold in our own minds.

Geez I cannot believe all the whining in this thread. If you seriously think your ideas have been put into StreetDeck, then doesn't that just make StreetDeck a better product? Isn't that all the more reason to support it? Why would you NOT want those cool ideas to be in StreetDeck. It is a "next generation" product and I would hope that it would contain every cool idea ever thought up.

It is commercial. So what? It provides so much utility! If you like it, buy it. If you don't, well, then don't. How simple is that? If you can do it better, then build it and compete! This is capitalism folks.

Open source means anyone is open to use it? That includes commercial, right? If you want your stuff to remain open source if a commercial entity uses it, then use a GNU public license. If you want to prevent others from patenting your ideas, then use an Apache 2.0 license. If you really want to protect your idea, then you've got to patent it. If you don't and then cry afterward, who's to blame?

I love StreetDeck and am very thankful I don't have to keep moving from one half-complete front end project to another looking for that "perfect" solution.

And kudos to mp3car.com for hosting a forum that allows all types of products and projects to be discussed openly.

(And no, I have no affiliation to StreetDeck or mp3car.com other than being a volunteer beta tester. I'm just a happy user - hope you all get as much satisfaction and fun from your set ups - cheers).

don't think so on that one. even though it is open source you still have to consult the developer before making commercial use of it, unless it says otherwise in the terms and conditions.

    1) That's why I mentioned a few of the licensing possibilities (duh?) - look 'em up.

    2) What's wrong with having all StreetDeck discussion consolidated into one area?

The consumer benefits from better, higher quality products that stem from competition.

It's too bad that a few developers feel left out in the cold because this was supposed to be "their" forum. This was simply the next logical step for mp3car (to brand and distribute their own products) from a business perspective. I don't think any developer should be taking it personally - it's not their personal website.

The way it read to me was that you were saying that because it is open source it's a free for all including using it commercially.

Nothing, that was not my point. look at the last two words of your staement I quoted, that was what the reference was to.

and as for the last paragraph of yours I will ignore as it has no reference to me.

I've browsed through many of the posts. So what's not "discussed openly"?

The source code? It's not open source - that's already been established.

Deleted posts? Every forum deletes offensive posts. Are they deleting relevant or controversial posts? Are they deleting posts out here? I would consider that to be wrong, but I find that hard to believe...

If you mean deleting a post that says "StreetDeck should be free or you should get off of mp3car.com" well then I can understand that being wiped off the StreetDeck forum.

I mean, come on, if the posts present reasonable arguments like "I believe there is a conflict of interest having StreetDeck hosted by mp3car.com because mp3car.com has traditionally hosted open source developments" then I would think they would NOT delete it.

But I suppose I could be wrong... (haven't actually witnessed the deletions)
