I didn't expect this to be such a hot topic.. its not a popularity thing at the other forum... more or less, everyone rates 5 or 1. If you're not a jackass, you tend to maintain a "Popularity" rating of 5... the people that tell it like it is, such as Darque, tend to have a medium rating.. like 3.5 or 4.. since the people who know whats up would give him good rates, while the newbies would fruitlessly throw bad ratings at him.. Keep in mind, you can rate newbies poorly for not searching as well. People who are jackasses, with nothing to contribute quickly fall into the 1 to 2 pit.

Back to the main idea, though, for trades. At the other forum, you must have 25 posts before you can leave feedback... as well you're not allowed to access the Marketplace forum until you have attained this level of recognition.. its true, scammers can make fake accounts, and post under them to up their counts... but often they get caught, because they're just posting stupid stuff to get the count up, or its all in one day. There is always a way to scam.. this just adds greater level of difficulty to conciously scam, and deters a lot of "amateur and accidental (incompetant and lazy) scammers"

If there is no existing script extension for vbulletin, even adding a little icon in the user area that links to an external ratings and comment system would work.. even if it wasn't integrated directly into the boards.

I don't know php or mysql, and couldn't implement it as such.. but I know its a fairly simple thing to setup, an afternoon of programming. I could do it in VB6 easily.. and it could function independantly of the boards entirely with the exception of the icon/link in the user area.. though, I doubt you would run vb apps on your server, heh.

Someone wanna step up to the plate on this to design a php/mysql version?

PS: In VB6, it would be deadly slow, and not database based. (in other words, functional, but impractical)

As you've made clear, an effective feedback system is non-trivial to design. Furthermore, an effective feedback system requires a way to verify the identity of each seller, and ideally the identity of each person leaving feedback. eBay uses bank accounts to uniquely identify sellers, although even this isn't foolproof -- it merely adds the complexity of obtaining a unique bank account for each seller. eBay does not require identification for buyers, and this very fact is utilized by scammers to generate high positive feedback.

Personally, I'm, not inclined to install any type of "seller ratings" system that can be so trivially abused. Such a system could be easily used by scammers to provide a false sense of security to potential buyers who might be more wary if they didn't understand how useless the ratings system really was.

Actually you're quite right and i'll agree with you on that. It provides a only the security as the cleverness of those willing to foil it. i like Fusion one's 1-5 rating. It may promote niceness among the ranks. In the end, though, we do need something

and i type out my smiley's after i learned that you can use em. old-skool rocks though! ":-D

    Oh well...
Snyper, I hate to revive this old thread, but I just noticed I'm off the scale as well. Did you ever find out what that means?

That is preposterous and very upsetting to me. I've been on this board for over six years and have never been anything other than considerate and helpful. You can review my posts and see that. Further, I've never bought or sold anything on the board, so it couldn't be related to that. There has to be a mistake. I have no enemies on this board. I am also one of the few people who consistently makes donations for all of the hard work that people put into applications. Please explain to me how this happened. Also, why am I one of the few people who doesn't have an icon for leaving comments/recommendations? Again, there is something funny going on here and it has nothing to do with my behavior. Please check on this.

That's pretty funny, but seriously can somebody look into this? There is a mistake somewhere.

Alright have your fun, but if this thing is broken it should be taken down until it's fixed because if it's in place everyone will assume that it works and means something.
