All for it. I've been running a MediaWiki install on an automotive site I admin, and the users have really taken to it. It's far better for FAQs, diagrams, tables, and the like than stickies and such.

I was actually thinking "This place needs a wiki" while browsing around the frontends forum today (an up-to-date table of what software works with what hardware, what hardware works with what cars, etc. would be amazingly useful) and I come in here to suggest it. Lo and behold, this thread is already here.

edit: If for some reason a wiki doesn't get put up here within the near future, I'll be glad to take matters in to my own hands and put up one myself which could be transferred over later.
    I don't know what I'm doing anymore.

Every forum I go on, people complain about users not searching, but they know it takes ages to get a remotely accurrate search. A lot of forums are really messy, and yet the admins still don't want to adopt a neater system to manage all the usefull information. I have to search for ages on this site to find what I need to know, and its usually burried under a post titled "I have a problem" - great!

I'm in the middle of changing registrars, but as soon as I regain control of my domains (tonight or tomorrow I hope) I will be putting up an unofficial wiki for these forums.

If the admins here eventually want to make it official, I'll be glad to hand over the database dumps and everything else.

    A wiki telling what a wiki is.........BRILLIANT!

I'm going to be throwing up some stubs soon which can hopefully be worked with. Anyone else feel free to add whatever information you can provide.

Bump, my wiki is up as I noted in my edit above.

For now it's wide open with no authentication. If people abuse this, I'll require registration.

Hate me if you want but running a Wiki is alot of work! The mods here are in my opinion already overworked and underpaid. By example, simply look at the response that was given in this post:

Revisiting the "bump" rule for Classified Section.

I have no opinion about this other than I have run several sites such as this and when my mods starting acting this way it was obvious to me it was because they were over-worked and loosing track of who's who.

Therefore I say these good people have enough work and forums are great for info as well as they keep the site "live, interactive, and in real time" and thats also good for the mp3car website as a whole.

    So I vote no.
