I can see the thread title and I can read the posts but i cant see any correlation between the two, might as well have be tittled "I like cheese and pickle sandwiches"

Has it really gotten to the point where people are fighting over google page rank? and more than that to the point where information can't be used from sources other than this site? I seem to recall some thing from history class about a country that tried this, they dragged all the puplic information that was not sanctioned by them out of librarys into the street and burned it to ashes. I also seem to remember that they weren't too popular and the rest of the world spanked them. may be history can teach us some thing.

No, the point is that people want to take every rule and guideline to an illogical extreme. The reasoning behind this is unknown to me, but I'm pretty certain it has to dow ith petty drudges and an ACLU-like mentality.

The rules are set down to prevent users from linking to other commercial sites or cross-promoting other vehiclePC sites in their signature lines. Linking to your own project site or personal website is acceptable. Linking to Digital-car.co.uk is not.

One member (or perhpas a group) is protesting this by requesting that people use a redirector rather than google to get here to prevent adding to Google's page rankings for mp3car.com. Frankly, I don't think that wil make any difference whatsoever, but let them have their protest.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

Ok first of all its more than one... second what the hell is the point of using the rules to beat me over the head if they are not set and are open to interpritation ?

Can I suggest a re word then - lets get this right and then you would have less chance of having the rules read back. I mean imho you cant read bettween the line on the text above because they are rigid.. not sure what wrong with relaying what it says ???

Is the problem with linking the fact its another forum / carpc site or Google ratings as you say ?

If its Google ratings then you can install or recomend ( as I have ) a redirector. This will mean the said site does not benifit from the Google link ( although personally I thing others should do the same as its only fair ) and users out there still get access to the info required.

I'm not after an 'interpritation' more a direct response and answer to this problem as you see it.

so just to confirm, i couldn't have some thing like this in my sig http://www.carpctexas.org as it links to another car pc forum, but i could have http://www.flexifoil.com in my sig as it is not related to car pcs? and how would a stand on http://vvoc.com and http://www.vectra-sport.com , as these are car forums rather than car pc forums but i have posted details of my car pc on them. could i cut a deal to put a digital-car.co.uk link in my sig here if i put an mp3car.com link in my sig there?

that aside (though it does seem rather petty that i have to check if my local haunts are mp3car approved) I can kind of see both sides of the argument, mp3car is (whether they agree with it or not) is becoming more and more commercial and as such moving away from the community side of things abit, its just the way the world works and no one will ever be able to balance that perfectly. sadly the down side of becoming more commercial is seeing other similar entities as competition, we do it in any field I'll use myself as an example, for years computers were just a hobby for me, some thing to keep me off the streets as a result of this i know more than a lot people i know. handing out information, popping round to some ones house to patch up some thing they'd broken was never an issue, no money ever changed hands i helped because i could. today i am a systems/network engineer, its how i make my money so you can be very sure i know all the other people and companies around me that offer similar services and make a point of trying to be the one that gets the most work, it doesn't however mean i go round pulling down their posters and belittling their name when i'm on site if people as me about them. many of them have their specialised areas that i don't have knowledge in, so I'd much rather have a specialist job done properly rather than bumble through my self an risk messing it up.

now apply that to the mp3car / digital-car issue, mp3car does it all, but doesn't do all of it well. when did you last see a uk meet organised (not just publicised) in the gatherings section here? this is where digital-car is specialised, it provides a uk community with an atmosphere that the uk carpc community feels comfortable in (it can't be denied it can feel a bit hostile/elitist here some times), some where were a hood is a bonnet, a trunk is a boot and posting a picture of your car doesn't get you a string of replies telling you your steering wheel is on the wrong side. they may only seem like minor points, but its what makes it feel like home.

This site is NOT the same as when I joint back in 2003 and a looker serveral years before that. The site is become more and more commercialize site rather than a hobbies site. Before everybody keep saying support the store that fund the forum, but now I see it the other way around. The forum fuel the store.
I can understand about link to commercial site as people get free advertising. Preventing link to other carPC sites is just freaking rediculous. Its' all about sharing information.

Am I breaking the forum rule if I post a link to an ebay auction for a good deal on the screen?

Oh yeh - I looked at that and never twigged - a home site is one thing ( as I understand it ) but a forum for CarPCs ( even localised ) is a big no no and as proved by me you get a sanction from Ziplock.
