'saying' to change the front page does nothing to help improve anything. It's simply complaining without providing any resolution.

Uh.. Red, I believe they did say what they wanted on the front page.

Industry related news -- aside from StreetDeck
New product arrivals at the mp3car.com store

...and some I'd like to see are:
    Featured installs
    Featured product reviews

I love mp3car, but the front page does need some work in my opinion. Keep a permanent streetdeck ad if you guys want, but please get some other news up there. Even if every other story was streetdeck, I think a lot of people would be happier than if the page remains as is.

    that's what I'm saying though.

Just complaining that you want more does very little to help the situation.

How about rather than waiting to find something to follow, you create something to follow?

There's only so many people working at this company. The amount of time it would take for someone to discover new product and post it on the front page would be 10x the time it would take all of the members of this forum to find it and post about it.

Rather than waiting for someone else to find it and follow them, be an innovator and a leader and look for it yourself! The more eyes that are looking the more likely things are to be found. Post it when you find it. Send an email with the into to Nat with it. Be proactive about the problem, not just reactive to it.

One of the rules of business, if you see a problem and all you do about it is complain you will get no where. If you see a problem and help to provide an option for a solution, you will get what you want a lot faster.

Providing a solution of 'put more on the front page of what should be on the front page in the first place' isn't a solution. It's just complaining about something without providing a solution.

I've met the mp3car.com guys personally and think they're all about helping us out as a community. they're also trying their best to bring 'carputers' into the main stage at events such as SEMA and MS events.

In my opinion, I think it's good for them that they can market their product on this site. It will bring more attention to 'us' as a community and hopefully drive other companies to develop more hardware/software for carputers.

I bet whenever they show this thing off they tell prospective clients to visit this site. They want to see stuff about Streetdeck in the news but also may venture into these forums or even their store to see what's available. If you want to see stuff for sale go to the store link! The main page is like mp3car's front door to the world and at this time they want their first impression to be of Streetdeck. We know the good and bad of the software, the features that it doesn't have but we want, and the $$. But clients and investors do not. They want to see what it does do and why they should look into it. Just my two cents.

Good luck to Chuck and the team on getting their name out there!

what acura cl said is correct, and it's where I'm coming into play with them.

it's going to be a lot of work but I think that the product will sell its self in the long run.

    Red,
With all due respect, I think it is wrong to say that we are complaining. I for one am the person who got the mp3car.com browser icon changed by making one myself and posting it on the forums.

I posted four good ideas of what to include on the front page 3 posts back, and I think they represent a bit more than complaining. I bet every company wishes they had users who would give them ideas on how to succeed!

Another idea: I also think it would be pretty cool if there was a new story every day, or even every other day. Many forum members visit the site every day, so it would be nice to have something to read.

If you want users to be able to post stories, fine. Give us an input form. But, I think the front page news is better left to the industry specialists who work for this company.

The moral of this post: To turn a blind eye to your current clients in order to procure new ones is NOT the way to do business.

I'm understanding your concerns, and I'm understanding why you all want to see changes. however, I'm also seeing that assumptions are being made without any background knowledge.

for instance, this past week? an entire week of SEMA.

New products? Where? Enough for a new one a day? if so, I must be living under a rock.

A new story a day? That's a great deal of time, at the least, just to type it up, not to mention the time to research. It sounds to me like there are assumptions being made that there is someone sitting at a desk just waiting to update the front page. How can this be the case?

I understand wanting to see all new information, however, if the information isn't there to be had in the first place, what do you propose?

You suggested new products....I bring to your attention the 'state of the union' thread started by another member...complaining about how things haven't progressed much in terms of products in 3 years...why would it suddenly be any different? Sure, there's now a double din screen/rom drive out there. I'd like to point out that mp3car.com cannot put their hands on every single new product on the market and test it and review it, let alone carry it.

Industry related news...what industry? what news?

They have posted the news that's available...there's not much of an industry present just yet, but, that's part of our jobs, to create the industry...soon, hopefully, we will create an industry that will turn the 12v industry on it's head and change car audio forever....but it can't happen over night.

New product arrivals...I ask you, how many new product arrivals have you seen recently? Not many, why? the way I see it there are two reasons for this.

    1) There's simply not that much new out there right now. Sure, there are things in development, but they aren't ready for release yet. And on that note, they sure aren't ready to be reviewed or talked about, that's just part of business and competition.

    2) MP3car.com simply cannot carry every new product on the market, plain and simple.

Regarding featured installs, sure, it's a great idea, but who makes the decision? Who maintains that? Sure, a voting system could be put in place, but that too would take time to develop, and with the treatment of the rep system, can we be lead to believe that the forum membership can treat it with the respect it would deserve?

Regarding featured product reviews, again, what new products? There simply aren't many right now.

I understand every ones wants and desires, however, I can't help but believe that these are simply not available at this time. Everyone wants to see new product reviews, I've asked people to chip in and help look for new products TO review rather than just complain that there aren't any....it seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

Understand that mp3car.com is not some multimillion dollar corporation with bodies lined up to do all of this work. Understand that it is a small group of people with high aspirations, dreams, and visions who are trying to make this all a reality. We're all here because we love this 'hobby'. We're all here because we can't wait to see the next new thing. However, we all can't do it without everyones assistance.

Bringing to light the fact that you all want to see something different is great and it's definitely needed. However, getting up in arms over something that doesn't even exist in the first place is a bit premature.

There's a whole host of things in the works, a Wiki being one of them.

Rest assured that all of this is not falling on deaf ears or a turned shoulder. Just understand that things are in the works and it is understood that people want to see new things and ideas.
