Personally, I reckon it's great that the MP3Car forum is constantly evolving (unlike some other forums I'm a member of). The numerous changes implemented recently have made things much easier. Keep up the good (and sometimes thankless) work. As I'm in the market for some components, I've just been checking out the new Classifieds section. I've got a couple of suggestions:

    1) Wondering if Hard Drives could/should be renamed to include Optical Drives as well ? I'm in the market for a slot/slim DVD etc, and find my self looking in a number of categories.

    2) When creating a new Ad, I'm wondering if the "Price" field is mandatory ? I assume it is. If so, I would appreciate a "Currency" field. When searching through the classifieds, I'm constantly converting prices to AUD (Australian Dollars). Whilst this is not a great concern, it could be if/when a Non-US member wants to sell an item. Naturally, they'll want to list it in their own currency (Pounds, Euro, AUD, etc). I understand that the Non-US member base is probably not very large, but it could be a legitimate factor.

Feel free to take with a grain of salt if necessary.

    Cheers,

    Long.1

Thanks! I would also encourage you to check out the store on this site.

I'll look into making the change. However, if we're going to be moving to the newer system, then I will wait to make the change.

The issue is that I am not a programmer. I am applying modifications that other programmers have developed. I am at the mercy of those programmers and the avaliable time they have for things like this.

Thanks - Spent many hours in the Mp3Store already. I've got a "cart" on there but no funds to pay for them as yet. Converting USD to AUD and adding international shipping is not much fun over here. I guess that's why I'm also looking 2nd hand in the classifieds section !!

Thanks Red - Appreciate your efforts, and empathize with your position. I was just thinking how I would list an item in AUD. Don't know really. Mind you i've nothing whatsoever to sell. More chance of a WTB listing, but we'll see if I get adventurous.

    Thanks again.

I say go for it. From what I see the $50 would be well spent and will add the the features us users are requesting, plus more.

In addition I would change the link for the Classified forum to go directly to the new system and completely close the old classified forums. I think some users are confused with seeing "Classified Section Closed", thinking there are no classifieds at all.

I was the one talking about donations, because I was pointing out it was only $50 dollars. IMHO, that is very cheap, considering the added value the software has. I am used to going to bat with my owner over things that cost a lot more, $50 is small change. In fact if I was an admin, I would have no problem fronting the cost to prove the software was worth while.

As for the new section being harder to use, once you look at it, it is pretty easy to figure out.

As I stated in the other thread, the classified section overhaul has been long over due. I am glad to see someone finally take it into their own hands and come up with a better solution. Congrats your way Red.

Done! Just talked to Nat and he agrees that it would be beneficial. Now I'm off to purchase, download, and install.

I will block the current system so we don't have any more sales posted.

This was in the initial plan. I wanted to give a chance for the current sales that are going on to finish. That's why I only blocked new threads and not new posts too

The issue here is that we don't want to take away from the source of income that keeps this site going...the store. After discussing this with Nat, we've decided that they are two different customer sets. This is why the initial plan was to remove the link from the nav bar and link it to the classifieds link for the forum. So that it wasn't so much front and center.

As for the new section being harder to use, once you look at it, it is pretty easy to figure out.
I agree. It's easier for someone that's not so tech savy IMO. A lot of people are intimidated by forums. This should take care of those people.

Thanks. However, it's not just me. The suggestions are heard, it's just a matter of implementing them.

I really want to see this place turn into a true community. There's so much good information to be had here and it's a hobby that I want to see take the industry by storm.

    It already has.

Look at all the new goodies cars now have. Ipod interfaces, on board mp3 systems, sat nav, etc. You think the auto makers don't poke around this site? I can tell you for sure they do. We will see factory on board pc systems sooner than later.

I know it's on it's way...but it's not there yet. It's on the verge of taking the industry by storm.

Specifically, I'm speaking of the aftermarket industry.

I've spoken via PM to numerous car audio manufacturers on this site as well as in person. There's no doubt there's an interest out there.
