Heres my opinion on the monitors. I would probably go with the Xenarc monitor myself. Picture and brightness wise your not going to notice any differences though. A couple years ago some people had some issues with recieving bad units, wouldnt power up, TS not functioning, ect ect. That was also with the 7" monitors though, which probably get produced at a 4:1 ratio compared to the 10". The Liliput does have a bright side as it is only a 4:3 screen as opposed to the 16:9 of the Xenarc.

I see your also lookin at the 8" monitors, I would say the same for them as well, also the Xenarc monitors offer auto on, as where it is hit or miss with the Liliputs but thats not a big deal imo, but I would splurge the extra $10 an deffinitly go with the Xenarc.

Also like they all said sink the monitor in. This is the biggest regret I have. I swore when I did my second monitor I would mount it verticaly and sink it in, got the second monitor held it up, saw it was brighter and put it in like the first one.

Yup, I am going with the Xenarc. Will order it this evening after I get down home. As far as mounting goes, I plan on mounting it into the bezel some. We'll get there once I get the truck driving.

I need to dig through my boxes and see if I have a good PS somewhere so that I can benchbuild this system soon. Well, I am taking off on the road.

If I can make the next meet, I'll have a little present for everyone. I just finished a fully unattended XP install (based off of TinyXP rev06 + a LOT of registry tweaks found + some basic software for the carpc) that after installation is complete...Boot time is about 8 seconds. After running Microsoft Bootvis a couple times and then optimizing the system, boot time is 7.06 seconds. I nearly shat myself... because that's a full boot...that's not resuming from hibernation

EWF + Horm support is built in as well - so those of you wanting to dive into that it's as easy as double clicking the icon to enable it

For those that would prefer to use their own version of XP, you can use the lastsession.ini that's in the $OEM$ folder to Nlite your own XP, and then just copy the $OEM$ folder into the .iso and install.

So either way after the next meet anyone having long boot times should be cured

Assuming that it actually plays nice with my mac, which TinyXP doesn't play nice with for some reason. MicroXP works, Micro2003 works (can't get my M-Audio card to work with it though, stupid drivers), TinyXP no dice, 50-in-1 UltraDVD no dice.

I'm going to try MicroXP again when I have some time. I think I figured out how to overcome the issues I ran into last time with it.

well, I ordered my 8 inch Xenarc monitor. I'll order my PS and then hold off on a new audio card for a month or two.

I convinced the wife I need a PS for the truck even if the stereo is not completed yet, but she has put me on a spending budget again...

Once the truck is up and running, I'll get my door and dash speakers in, and run the onboard audio until she gives me the ok for the nice audio card... dammit, I hate being grounded on my spending :-)

I'm on a budget too, so I feel your pain. I break the rules on occasion though.

I have a little side project that wouldn't mind your input on. I need to stop by.

I think that the reason TinyXP may not work is because something was removed (hardware support for something?) in it that wasn't in Micro. There's a new TinyXP Rev08 out that has SP3 integrated. I haven't tried that yet. If the TinyXP's won't work we can easily modify an install that works for you. All that's really needed is to modify the winnt.sif and the $OEM$ folder.

I downloaded Rev 08 and played with it in VMWare yesterday. It's a bit of a slow booter, but it gave me a chance in do a test run with EWF.

And eXPerience wasn't kidding when he admitted the other day that it's bloated.

guess you could re-nlite it using the lastsession.ini from rev06 to trim the fat? dunno...I just finished installing it as well and noticed it was very slow to boot...definately not that 7 second monster I created over the weekend. I was looking forward to some SP3 goodness as I've seen many reports of speed increases for the OS but that's not quite apparent with TinyXP 08
