Anyone local have an extra ATX Power supply, case, and a burner they would mind lending me for a few days while I bench build this machine? If not, I need to go purchase a cheap case and power supply. I really need to bench build this system, and do the OS install onto the CF card soon before moving the components into the truck. Also, where can I get a copy of ghost? I need to ghost the image from a drive before I transfer it to the CF card.
Also, if anyone wants to lend a hand in it, I just might start building this bad boy up and running before the meet...
GAH! Of all the things to stop me dead in my tracks it ended up being a handful of tiny screws! I dumped out my giant pill bottle of case screws and picked out about a dozen metal motherboard standoff screws and set to work drilling and tapping all the mounting holes for my hardware. Ended up not having the correct tap and haven't found one locally yet (unless I spend a fortune buying a huge kit to get the ONE tap I need and I'm not even sure if it is the right one!). Blargh!
So instead I've skipped ahead to the OS install and getting everything running. Tomorrow I'll gut my touchscreen and get it mounted in the trim kit and attach that to my chassis so I can get a better idea of where to mount the controller boards. I'm a bit behind 'schedule' but things are still going well!
Edit: Crisis averted. Took the drill back to the holes and wobbled them out just a smidge bigger then brute forced a screw through the holes to thread them. Backed those out and the standoffs went in without too much hassle. Everything is now mounted and secured except the TS and it's various guts. And I need some shrink tubing before I can be satisfied with my power supply wiring job. Other than that I'm back on track!
Planning: Never ends!
Parts: Strewn about the house...
Install: Someday soon...

Yo, I'm in for the meetup on the 28th. Has the location been decided yet? I know it says TBD on the first post. I'm here at SLU, we could meet in forest park. I don't know if this is too far into the City of Saint Louis for the rest of you.
O.K. guys. Took a tour of Forest Park today - and damn near got arrested!!!!
2 cars of Park Rangers swooped in on me with lights and sirens for taking an expired (3 days old) PicNic Permit off a sign clipboard. Then they "said" they ran my plates and they didn't match mi VIN, then they said my CarPC was illegal cause it could distract the driver. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
Luckily, all my paperwork was in order, so they gave me a choice 4 tickets (3 for my plates and one for stealing the expired permit off the sign) or leave the park immediately. I'm just glad one of the rangers recognized I was a retired AF officer and interceded on my behalf.
Do we really want to gather there with us crowding around each others cars, loud music, partying, drinking, and geek-speak... with these guys lurking behind every tree?

The Carpc crap is just that...crap. If they want distracting, they have police radios + a Panasonic Toughbook mounted on their dash, not to mention one of my co-workers is married to an officer in DesPaires and he said it's not illegal and doesn't think it even can be as many vehicles now come with similar screens mounted right up front in plain view of the driver. He mentioned Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Nissan, Toyota, Cadillac, Chevy, BMW, Mercedes - Basically all manufactures offer at least one vehicle with the option of a multi-functional interactive screen upfront and some are included standard. So they can just STFU in My Opinion.
As for where we meet...doesn't matter to me much. It'll be my last meet (found out I can probably make it). Forest Park wouldn't be my first choice though. The rangers and police in that area tend to be real pricks.
July 4th I'll be on the road with the stuff from our house packed in a big truck headed to Houston, so this meet will be just in time![]()
Forest Park is a no no for me... with big flashy wheels and air suspension, those officers will be all over me like white on rice.
Gizmo, I'll see you tonight. We can put our heads together and see if we can come up with something.
Yeah, Forrest Park sucks now because of cops, but I'm down to meet up, needs some ideas for my '99 Silverado install. Keep me posted on the place.
