O.K. tomorrows the day. Looks like I'm going to be all alone. I'll just bring some of my car projects and work on them there. Should be a great day weather-wise. Probably the last we see above 80 for the rest of the schedule this year.

Now my hardest decision is which car to bring. Last warm Saturday on the schedule - top down in the Mustang. Prep for Chicago meet, rebuild airhorns, install fusion brain - roll with the Caddy. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I think I'll go with the Caddy, what the hell, gotta take it to Chicago anyway.

Oh CRAP! Its Saturday, I had Sunday on my calendar. Now I have to beg my wife to let me go. Most likely I wont make it. I also wont make any next year. I will be playing in the sandbox most of the year.

No offense guys, but I think I'm done for the year unless there's an overwhelming outcry for another. I have an intense travel schedule for the next couple months so I probably won't know where I am come thanksgiving.

Thanks to all for your support, its been a good summer and I can't wait to take this on again in the Spring.

Hey guys sounds like some good meets. I miss them no time in my schedule for them either though and plus being in Houston makes it tough to make the STL meets

Anyway, I know some of you were interested in how a carpc w/Flash drive or SSD setup performed. Well...damnit....Fry's down here had to go and run the Patiot Warp v2 32GB SSD on sale for $109 - $10 rebate so I bit. Installed TinyXP rev 9 on it and got everything setup the way I wanted.

I've got good and bad news. Good news...it works GREAT! The whole system feels snappier, load times between screens are nearly non-existent, and launching GPS is nearly instantaneous.

Bad news. Boot times haven't increased hardly at all over my 5400RPM 60GB Samsung laptop drive. Even with all the optimisations...the fastest I got for a boot time was 11-13 seconds using hibernation. 18 seconds from a cold boot.

But if you're interested...those bastards at Fry's now have it $10 cheaper online than what I paid in the store. $89 after a rebate...makes it a VERY tempting option to have NO moving parts in your carpc (other than cooling fans)

Gawd I hate you and your fast boot times. 18 seconds would be heaven on my system.

Maybe try an SSD? They're getting cheaper. $89 for a 32GB SSD isn't too awfully bad I don't think. Sure makes the entire system super-responsive

Here's the sad part, I bought a flash card and a flash to IDE converter a while ago and I still haven't set it up. I'm lazy.

Is it BootCamp that slows your boot times down?

I re-considered going with the CF + IDE/SATA adapter due to the shorter lifespan and . I went with the Patriot 32GB SSD which is a SATAII interface, no adapters. ~ 100Mb/s write speed, 175MB/s read speed and 0ms access time. Average lifetime is something like 1.5million hours or something...which should last me the rest of my life in a carpc

I'm actually considering getting that new Intel Atom330 (dual core atom 1.6Ghz) board. It's only around $70-75. I can't really justify it though right now as the Core2Celeron board I have is doing just fine.

Part of the problem is the 10 seconds it spends in bios getting ready to boot and there's no way to speed it up. I could do a 2.5" IDE SSD. I'm thinking of just suffering through with what I have for now and then replacing it down the line with more standard non-mac components.
