    Baltimore Hackathon - November 19th - mp3Car Sponsoring

The Baltimore Hackathon is an event for programmers, engineers and designers to come together and build their dream project all in 48 hours. It is going to happen the weekend of November 19th starting at 6pm and ending on Sunday at 4pm. Judging will run from 4pm-6pm on Sunday and hopefully we will all leave with awesome projects.

The plan is to host 50 technologists at the Beehive coworking space located within the ETC Building at 2400 Boston St, Baltimore, MD where we will feed and encourage you all weekend long. Overnight sleeping is strongly encouraged and you're welcome to build whatever you want. There will be separate judging categories for hardware/software and group/individual and a crowd favorite category. That being said if you plan on building hardware understand that we won't have power tools on hand and you will be expected to clean up after yourselves. If you need to prefabricate parts ahead of time (CNC, lasercutter etc) that's ok, just be sure to disclose what you did ahead of time and how you did it. For additional details see the rules at: https://docs.google.com/document/edi...amnKYWhE&hl=en

This is going to be an awesome event and a whole lot of fun. Sign up is at http://bhat1.eventbrite.com/ we look forward to seeing you there.

PS If you don't have a group and would like one we'll be offering some time Friday night for people to find teammates and put one together.
PPS Here's some examples of things built at weekend hackathons

More info on it and sign up HERE

For those of you who have been to our office, this event will be held down the hall. Should be a pretty interesting group from the Baltimore Node.

So is there a list of things to build, or is it a you can build anything? Assigned groups, or grouping there, or do you arrive already with a group a project and a plan?

Sounds interesting but I have never heard of it before

    Just saw this...
You can build anything you want. It is 48 hours and you can work on your own or with a group. If you do not have a group, you can meet others who are looking for a group.

These are becoming pretty popular and sometimes they are for social causes like the Sunlight Foundation hackathons.

If anyone is near Baltimore, I highly recommend this.

Or if anyone wants to organize an mp3Car Hackathon, I would be happy to support it. It was an idea for this years AFK Fest, but I decided against doing it. We could try it next year.

Interesting... I am useless at fabrication without my laser. I couldnt cut a straight line with a papercutter so I rely on my machine to do it for me That would make it one heck of a haul!

I had never heard of these before so I will have to look into them more in depth. They sound fun and exactly the sort of thing most of the mp3car community would enjoy.
