Sorry to pipe in guys... been a good year since I took a look here.
Had a scroll through each page of this post for it, but didn't see this. Don't know if it was mentioned at all so sorry if it was.
Years back there was an Australian forum set up... don't remember it ever taking off. Maybe I am wrong... anyhow someone here may remember it... think it was called the Australian portal.
Also, between Bris and Melb personally.

Long time listener, first time poster![]()
As per my avatar - based in Adelaide, Australia.
Currently putting an overpowered PC into a soon to be underpowered car (Honda Integra). Once I get the GPS/MP3 stuff all working I plan to sell the car (sans computer) and buy a WRX then do a fully fabricated install - just so I can say "N#$#@ please! My **** is custom!"
Would love to eventually have the GPS software be able to read pace notes for rally-driving through the Adelaide hills etc

Rainbow said it right>Long time listener, first time poster! I'm from melb just finished putting my puter into a 180sx.Trouble free all the way, of course i couldn't have done it without these forums!!!!!! I just need to do some tweaks like more memory and it should all be good.

gps (destinator)
and heaps more to come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cheers!
Well it was not a completely faultless install (as predicted). Didn't think of it until after I had finished that running the powercable for the pc alongside the VGA and audio cables would cause interference that mean there is some ticking in the audio and some distortion with the screen... but I really can't be bothered re-wiring the whole car just to potentially reduce that given that I will be selling it in a couple of months.
Only other problem was when the PC crashed and the opus did not poweroff the PC (or maybe it was the opus that crashed). Installed a reset switch and it all seems fine.. LOVE the system but have almost had about 5 accidents this week because I get too carried away pressing on the touchscreen as I drive.

Hi Guys,
Just putting a car computer together but what I want to do is install a laptop DVD into my dash but not sure how to go about connecting it. I'm thinking of a USB external one (I've seen a Toshiba that will do it or is there a way of connecting an ide cable with power to the dvd any help would be appreciated........cheers
P.S. I'm near Ballarat, Victoria
Just thought I'd chime in. Another long time reader first time poster as well. Originally from the US and been in Melbourne for over three years now. I'm planning my project (and compiling parts) as I'm still working on getting the car! It'll be a black on black smart roadster if financing goes through. I've put a deposit on it and have talked with Chris (smart specialist at the Merc dealership) in Southbank about how to put it all together. Very helpful. I plan on taking pictures every step of the way. Outer eastern suburbs represent!
