Good purchase on [FS] (Melb/Aust) VIA EN12k system

So, are you going to run it through an ASL inverter box, or to the second VGA screen?

    Thanks Panda,

Hopefully I can turn those parts into something useful !!

At this "very" early stage, I'm happy to entertain leaving the "functions" of the standard ICC as is. I hope to buy a new VGA TouchScreen monitor and use that to interact with the carputer. I'm scared to even think about screen mounting etc as yet, as I've probably got about 100 issues to overcome before I even get to that.

Thanks for the support and interest - most appreciated.

By the way, I've just posted up Long.1's Worklog and I'll be happy to take any/all questions and suggestions over there.

    Cheers,

    Long.1

long.1 > I'm happy to give you some info, or have a chat (or anyone else for that matter) about carpc, and the experience/learnings I have had with it.

Ive got a pretty custom install in my car (pics soon hopefully) and its been a nightmare.. but hopefully itll all be worth it.

Rather than going over the same thing 10 times, Id prefer to answer Q's at a meet (I'm in Melb). Next month (when the car's ready) I'll be keen to come along - theres not much to show at the moment.

    Hi everyone, another Melbournite here.
Just back from Germany after a while working for Audi in their infotainment department.
I've just bought an BF mkII XR6 Ute and am hooked on adding a carputer to it.
I'll be watching dkmickyg, mrbean_phillip and long.1's worklogs very closely.
I don't have the premo sound upgrade so its just the crappy screen for me. I'd love to upgrade it to premium screen but i think costs will be a bit prohibitive for that, instead i think i'll put a touchscreen in underneath the Air con controls.
thats about as far as i've got so far and it'll probably be a while before i buy anything, have to try and save some money while going to uni and having limited hours to work.

Its good to see so many aussies here, especially those from melbourne, might meet some of you some time.
    Cheers
    Mark

Yeah, you'd be far better off spending your coin on an aftermarket touchscreen than going for the colour screen upgrade. It's nice if you have it, but I certainly wouldn't buy one if I had the choice.

Aftermarket screen would be cheaper and have better resolution. It just wouldn't look stock (without a lot of fabrication)

Thanks Iceman - appreciate that. Naturally keen to see your photos as well - keep us posted.
Hopefully we can get some Melbournians excited about a potential Melbourne Meet (Post #72 onwards) ?

mp3car.com store or guys selling on the forums are good places to start. Ebay can be good for some smaller items like USB hubs and screens. Here for the M2-ATX. There are also a few places here in Oz that sell CarPC stuff. They just tend to be a little on the expensive side due to having to pay import duties and the like. There are links floating around in the forums somewhere.
