How many Australian mp3Cars are there out there?

This thread looks like it needs a bit of a bump for the Aussies out there, so..

Hi, Im Jason, from Canberra, 28 years old, Auto Electrician by trade.

Years ago before I ever came across this site, I used to run a P3 pc off an inverter thru an old clarion in dash tv, which just didnt cut it due to tv only resolution. I have just built myself my first dedicated carpc. I just need a few more USB cables to complete it and a real copy of windows 7.

Still looking for a front end though... Centrafuse seems to be the go from what I've read, but I'm unsure about decent and recent navigation maps for Australia, particularly Canberra.

I've just picked up an EB XR8, lowered on 17" AU wheels, 2.5" exhaust etc, EF seats etc.

For the carpc, I'm running a JW Minix board with amd2 dual core 2.9ghz, 2gb DDR2, 500gb HDD, bluetooth, wifi, gps, samsung external dvd burner, xenarc 700Y-Y 7" screen off an m4-atx power supply.

Depending on the weather, I'll be installing it this weekend.

On the list to install are: flashpoint v3 alarm, polk audio db6501 splits, soundstream stl4.500 amp, plus the carpc. Waiting for payday to get some MDF and fibreglass supplies for a custom boot install, a soundstream stl1.1200D monoblock and a pair of soundstream reference 12s.

The company I work for has struck a deal with the factory that makes Stinger gear, to make our own range of audio installation gear (Fuses/Holders/Terminals/Breakers/RCAs/Wiring kits etc) So I'll be using this for the install as it looks good, and is damn cheap, especially with staff discount :)

I'm going to try and get some photos of the install to post.

Are there any others from Canberra on here?

Hi Jason, sounds like you are well on your way.

I'm from Canberra as well. Have a VY wagon which you can see on my worklog. I'm not sure if there are many other Canberrans on here or not, we could probably have the smallest car PC meet around!

I'm doing a bit of work on mine too at the moment, looking at getting a DAB+ and FM unit and a few wiring changes to clean it up etc. Let me know how it goes hey, would be keen to see it in the flesh once it's all done.

Well, The weather is looking pretty average today.. grey and nasty.. Typical Canberra :(

Off to the computer market to buy a real copy of windows 7, after testing with a dodgy copy and making sure everything works before forking out for it. I Might have to hit up a friend with a garage to try and get started..

Hi Tom, good to see another Canberran on here.. Which side of town are you on? im in Gungahlin. I looked at your build post, and i'm pretty sure I've seen your wagon around.

Hi Tom,
I've done plenty of testing on the DAB+/FM module. Just have to get the carpc inatslled and connect the unit to the car antenna with an adapter cable.

I'm in Syd and could get down there for a meetup if you would like to get a closer look at the module and hear what it sounds like. I do some 4WDing and could co-ordinate a meetup with one of my trips down your way.

Hi Kev, yeah that would be good to see your set up. I took the plunge and ordered one of Craig's Radio's last night, so yeah, just trying to tackle the antenna issue the same as you. I'll PM you my email address, just flick me a note if you're coming down.

Yeah it was a dirty weekend hey. I'm in Braddon, and work in the city / inner south so I don't make it up to Gungahlin much. I have heard from people that there is a wagon that is pretty much identical to mine getting around up there though. It was a bit of a shame when I heard that, when I got my rims I hadn't seen them around much at all, but now they are everywhere!

Let me know how you go with your install, happy to lend a hand if I can. Sadly I don't have a garage though (live in an apartment).

Braddon is like 5mins drive from mine. left onto flemmington road out of harrison, then right onto northbourne :)

I havent done much yet... Been too busy helping wire up a friends WRX drag car.

I'm gonna start an install log so as to not spam this thread too much.

We should organise state meetups. I'll be happy to organise a QLD meetup, except I haven't got a car PC in my car anymore.

kinda off topic, but has anyone in Aus used these guys: www.polares.com.au (Porares) I haven't been able to find anything on these forums about them or on google to see if it's legit or hardware worth looking at for a carpc

Definitely legit. I bought my BU-353 GPS receiver from them. I get their pricelist every month.
