I was thinking....wiring one of those Windows fingerprint devices to the pc. Get into the car and use your fingerprint to log in. Doing so will also enable you to start your car. Good idea...or bad idea?

I spent some time looking at this and then put it on the "back burner" to deal with other stuff (like me screen I cannot seem to finish)

here are some links I found.

http://www.automobile-security.com/default.htm <---- They sell this sort of thing minus the computer

    Replacing key ignition

    biometric inputs

I have to look back over it, but the biggest problem I saw (and others) was that if the system is dependent on the computer, you need A) power to the computer before the car is started and B) If something goes worng with the computer then you cannot start the car

pc fingerprint is way to unreliable & slow for starting functions....alot of oems are going away from keyed ign & the pretty much universal way this is done is with a transmiter type keyfob that remains in your pocket, but unlocks the car & allows it to start by pushing a start button on the dash......

liability issues & the american way of sue sue sue will keep pcs as we know them out of vehicles for a long time as far as oem...when they do make it into production they will probably be pretty limited for these reasons also....
