1k miles isn't that bad of a drive, I do it several times a year between home and school. Timed my last trip, 14 hours straight through with only 23 minutes of time stopped. Cost, $60

bring friend and switch off drivers

975 miles for me... a comfortable 17 hour drive... 16 hours going 70 w/ cruise control -- not much more than the 850 miles I did at least 6 times a year growing up from Boston to Ohio.

I would be down for a UT lan.... a bunch of geeks sitting in their cars playing UT.... oh the sheer fun of it

getting closer to launch date, it would be nice to have a set of officially organized caravans leaving from the dfferent parts of the country. (mentioned in the previous thread) maybe three main caravans - LA, Chicago, and NYC or something like that and everyone could meet there and drive out togther.

ideas for the meet itself.... nothing that hasnt already been said before, so i wont bother repeating... seminar topics should be a mixture of newbie and veteran.. although it would be easy enough to only have a few newb seminars that covered just about everything they needed to know... and then deveote the rest to more advanced topics.

    For me:

Elapsed Time: 22 hours, 28 minutes
    Est. Distance: 1,121 miles
    Gas: 37 gallons at 30mpg = $93 @ $2.50/gallon

One day of 12 hours, one day of 10.
If I can average 65 mph, it cuts it down to 17.2 hrs total.

I can't recall if I've done a drive that far before or not. Mostly driven up and down the East coast and flown if it was farther. Should be an interesting adventure.
