Of course you think socal is better, you live there. 1.5 hours versus 7+ hours (hauling ars) is a bit favored towards you.

Anyways there is probably just as many people coming from norcal as socal.

We should pic a place inbetween

I think a nice in between place would be either Santa Cruz, Monterey, or SLO. And don't whine about SLO being too far north for you SoCal folks, its farther from the bay area then it is from you guys.
I think this idea is great and will do everything I can to arrange to be there!!

Maybe look into a hotel sponsering it and giving discount rates to us to stay there and getting use of thier parking lot.

Would be nice to have some sort of schedule of events, maybe a tech session or two, and a judged contest with prizes in different categories. I think some of the budget should definately be for prizes and raffles.

EDIT: I just checked Mapquest and San Louis Obispo is 3.5 hours from LA and 3.7 hours from San Francisco. I think that would be the perfect mid point as its a great town (my sister went to college there) and you would get a huge college crowd showing up to see whats going on if there was some advertising for it. Think of how many people would want to do these systems if they could see them working in person!!

Plus, SLO is 10 minutes from a beach, plenty of camping, and if you hooked up with a local brewery to serve the beer alchohol would not be a problem!!

Just thought of something crucial: We'll need a way to power the cars other then the car batteries. We can't leave the cars running all day, and you can't show what the pc's can do without power to them. We will need either generators that can be hooked up to the car's batteries to keep them charged, or plug into on-site power.

Another good camping / drinking spot near San Luis Obispo is Pismo Beach. You can camp there and/or get lodging. Drinking is no problem and you can drive your off-road vehicles (or rental ATV) right on the beach and into the dunes. That place is almost always packed on the weekends though I guess it might be a bit less popular in November.

Picking a middle spot like that though will probably minimize your turn out since it's a good 3hr drive for both of the major population centers in California.

Somewere near SLO is good. I drove there to visit CalPoly.
*Note*: Traffic sucks on the 101. I went 16mph for 1 hour (that's w/o accidents on the 101)!

Oh, and the SATs are on the 5th... so if I do make it, its gonna be late
