for pics, i only took a couple, dont know if anyone else took pics. I will post the ones i took soon.
Unfortunately something came up last minute, and I missed the last meet. When is the next one going to be and where? How about somewhere like areound the Vero Beach area this time? Its kinda the half way point between Southern Florida, and the Orlando area.
I found some place called "Crispers" in Vero, I have never been to one, but it looks like they have a pretty nice menu. (You can look at their full menu and prices in a PDF)
They have Free WiFi access, and that would definitely come in handy for a CarPC meet. This is just a suggestion, and I am putting it out there for the powers that be to see what ya think.
On another note, I would love to find someone within a couple hours of West Palm Beach to help me get my CarPC power rectified. I am good at programming, skinning, and such, but not that great with electrical circuits and such. I am going to have to keep my inverter, as the damn power supply in my small form factor PC has a couple strange voltages on it, and a standard DC-DC power supply will not work.
I just want to automate it really, as now I have to reach under the passenger seat to turn it on after I start the car, and manually shut the computer down, and then power off the inverter after the computer shuts down. I have no problem with paying someone to help me with this!
I can help you hook up a relay to do all this for you..its really easy.
Ill try and draw up a diagram so you can try it.
Basically i use a standard 30amp relay inbetween battery and inverter.
Once it gets a signal from say cig lighter it opens the relay in turn provides power to the inverter which in turns turns on my PC.
i live in st cloud whic is before orlando on turnpike if you wanna driveup we can set it up.

Yeah, not too hard. I could help you out too if you wanted, I'm near Orlando, Maitland Exit off I4.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the help! It's not just a matter of powering off. I also need it, when the ignition is turned off, to power down the computer, and then kill the inverter like say 1 minute later. I realize I am going to need some sort of shut down controller, I just don't know exactly what to get to work with an inverter.
I have done a little research, and most of them seem to be available for the DC-DC power supplies Also researching, I probably need to include a tank circuit so when the car is cranked, the voltage in the inverter doesn't drop low enough to drop power to the computer.
Basically, what I am looking for, is to start the car, and the PC powers up. Turn off the car, the PC shuts down, and shortly after, the power to the inverter is killed.
If anyone has any more ideas, shoot me a PM and I can give you my MSN, AOL, YAhoo ect IM id's. I am more than willing to drive up to get this working, and also don't expect or want anyone to do this for free!
I have the same situation as you. I have the inverter set to turn on and off with the ignition(Thanks John05srt4) but still have to push the button on the computer to turn it on. I have been looking for a shutdown controller and I think this one will work. Let me know what you think.
As for having to turn your computer on manually, you may be able to automate that. In the BIOS on my CarPC there is an option for power failure. I have it set to power on after power failure.
This way, it works right now by:
I start the car, and then turn on the inverter (When inverter is powered on, the PC gets power and automatically starts up)
Before leaving the car, I hit the exit menu on my skin, and power off. When the computer powers off (No signal detected on the LCD pop's up) I then turn the inverter off.
I can't wait to get the automatic power up and such working! I have a remote start alarm for my car, and it will allow me to start the car from here at the desk, wait for the computer to boot up and connect to the wireless network, and then be able to remote desktop in, sync files ect.
EDIT: You have GOT to be kidding me! hahhah I just went to order one, and when you click the "Buy It" button, PayPal redirects you to a page saying "This recipient is currently unable to receive money."
the one i sent you worked great. just turn the key on or off once you got it wired.
