you're talking about using something like the Alpine or Pioneer din sized center, not a real center channel like most people think of it.

What is a "real" center channel? What other kind is there?

The clarion 604 is what I have.

    couple of quick questions:

    1) have the issues that were mentioned earlier in this thread, that the SD team said would be fixed in an "update DVD" been fixed on all new units shipping now? (i'm considering buying, but want a lot of those bugs fixed).

    2) One user mentioned that the SD software does not allow some functions when driving.... what functions are prohibited exactly? If any of those "restricted functions" while driving are playing movie files (while in motion), then that's a deal breaker for me as the allure of the G4 was to give my kids something to watch while riding in the car.

    thanks!

The units that are shipping now have all the latest updates.

There is a way to disable this feature using the -testmode feature.

thank you very much for the update.

this "testmode" feature..... does it disable anything (is it like running in "safe mode" or something?) If it is so easy to disable it, why have a restriction on it in the first place? Is this "disabling" feature a function of SD or of the G4? thanks!

There are certain legal ramifications if we as a company were to release a product, support a product, and update a product that would effectively break the law. Allowing full motion video while moving is illegal in certain states/countries. Because we sell a product across the nation and to various other countries we must abide by local and national laws. The testmode feature is there for the very reason the name implies..to allow testing.

ABTsportsline, I believe you add it to the end of the shortcut that launches SD in windows. so you only need to do it once.

i was reading the G4 manual and noticed that the Brown lead on the harness (Remocon) is for steering wheel controls - but it said this feature is currently unavailable. Is this a software feature or hardware feature with the G4? (in other words will this be remedied by a firmware/software update later on? or if we order the G4 now, will we never have the possibility to use our steering wheel controls with an adapter?

This is discussed at GREAT lenghth in various posts, the short answer is no, it does not and will not work. Based on what your car's wiring is there is a remote (no pun intended) chance you might get limited functionality out of it. So, as you can infer, it is lack of software support for what is limited hardware (with too many variables to be compatible with all).

Hope my ramblings made sense, if not search and read the countless other posts/threads that answer it step by step.
