Backup camera not working other than in reverse gear

I have a Boyo Vision VTL120 backup camera (http://www.millionbuy.com/vsnvtl120.html). It's kind of useless on my car (Honda Prelude), but is a neat novelty.

It works when I am in reverse gear, but when I go to the Backup Camera screen in StreetDeck, I get a garbage image (just a mass of bright light). Is this because the camera is relying on the reverse lights to be active for it to be activated properly? I don't know exactly how it's hooked up, as the installer did it.

I was a bit disappointed that this didn't work, as the most novel use of the camera for me would probably be to see the ground-level view of the highway disappearing behind me (not that I would be just staring at it for more than half a second at a time while on the road). For backing up, it's not nearly as safe as turning my head to see with my eyes directly.

The backup camera on the G4 does NOT work through the rearview camera button in StreetDeck. It is hooked directly to the screen so it can be on before the computer is booted. You can hook any USB webcam up to STreetDeck and use it with the software controller rearview camera button in STreetDeck, it won't automatically switch to it in reverse though.

Maybe it's a matter of sematics...
But if the G4's rearview camera is hard-wired to the screen, wouldn't it help to avoid confusion to re-label the software-based camera functions in SD (using USB camera or whatever) to something besides "rearview camera"? After all, the camera functionality could be used for purposes other than a rearview camera (observing passengers, observing a load in the bed of a truck, etc.).

How bout this...

Remove the BU camera button from SD because it does not work... better yet make it work before you sell the public a bill of goods...

The back up camera button does work, you just need to add a usb camera to use it. The button is not on the start module, if you don't use it, don't add it to it.

The fact still remains that the button does not work with the g4 Hardware... That is a problem for an average user...

I understand your "average consumer" issue, but if you want a quick solution do this:
Use a splitter (just a regular RCA splitter) to bring the rear camera signal to the G4 (RCA) and Street Deck (USB).
it works just fine!

Any suggestion on a composite-video-to-USB adapter to use for this?
