    Droid X Car Mounts

I would like to apply for a grant to purchase either a car mount or desktop mount for my new Droid X. I am already able to control the Droid X over BT through my current headunit and would like a stand for it in the car where it can charge and also be used for various tasks like GPS and Music at the same time.

    Desktop Dock
    Car Mount Dock

I would prefer a desktop dock as this way I can embed the dock into my dash without the need to drape wires over my dash just like those windshield mounted GPS units. I would prefer to have the dock embedded so no wires are visible.

I also have a 2nd computer in the car (clarion mind) that could also provide permanent storage (via external HDD) for music, videos, and apps that the Droid X could access through an internal WIFI network. I assume with this setup I could create the most networked phon-based car PC setup.

wait, so how is this going to drive innovation in the forums? Innovation grants should benefit the community.

Much like the IPhone, I am going to try and use the Droid X as the main PC in the car. Adding a car dock will just make it easier for me to charge and connect my Droid to my existing car PC. My review will help new Droid X user connect their phones to their existing car PCs or use it as their main car PC.

Well your first problem is, there are magnets in the mounts. The desktop's magnet opens up the "clock" program on android 2.2(same program in 2.1, just isnt default accesable), and the car dock's magnet opens the "car home" app. You would have to hack the mount apart and flip the magnet around on the desktop dock. The second problem is, I don't see how that is going to benefit the community like Sonicxtacy02 said. The last problem is the last sentence,

    setup.
Are you going to be writing an android app that will run as the front end? That would be the only innovation I could see coming out of this.

If not, shoot, I'll take a new droid suction mount guys...
