We have built hundreds of boat computers using Seagate exteme condition hard drives. The principals should really be the same using flash. What specific questions do you have? I am going to move this post over to the boat computer section.

I just re-read th at again. I think you meant booting. You should be able to find documentation by searching our forums. it is a bit tricky and provides almost no performance improvement. There is also a lot of data on this in embedded computing forums.

Yes I did mean booting, not boating. Sorry for the mistype. I really need a system that is rugged and made for extreme conditions (mostly vibration). Thanks

    Post times for my setup

I did a video of my post time on my D201GLYA setup. I put a fan on it and am using an ATA drive on it. I think it's a Western Digital but I'm not going out to the car and taking the case off to look at it. 1 gig of RAM, a 4 port external USB hub, 4 internal ports with XM Direct adaptor from mp3car.com, XM Direct, Griffin powermate, Xenarc 8" touchscreen.

Watching my system boot is about as exciting as watching paint dry, so here's the summary - about 15 seconds to post, about 40 seconds to login and it goes pretty quick from there. Another few seconds to load Road Runner and then a little wait for the XM Direct to wake up. Total boot time from power off to XM music is 1 minute 9 seconds.
