alright well once again it has been awhile, but i have some updates for NAS. I have been using NAS in my vehicle for quite a while now, and i must say it serves my purposes very well. That is except for one thing, ALBUM ART! album art has always been a thorn in my side. The best solution would obviously be to always have good reliable access to the internet, to which you could just query different online music stores, and databases for the correct album art. There is just never really been a perfect solution when you don't have constant internet access, as most of don't in our vehicles. until now i have been going the route of getting the album artwork from some source, stick that into a seperate folder (appropriatly named according to album/artist) and then use an algorithm to match the album to the artwork. While this works reasonably well, it becomes annoying when you try to use the "update from disk" feature that i have implemented earlier (this feature lets you specify a specific location in which to find new music to your system). The whole proccess is really clunky when it comes to adding new artwork along with the music. I found myself often just ignoring the album art and just settling for the music by itself. Well what i finally did was add support for extracting the album artwork out the metadata (id3). most music orginaztion apps (itunes included) will handle adding album artwork to the metadata. here is a link to show you how.
So anyway all that to say that i went ahead and got this feature implemented. Now any mp3 file that has artwork embedded will be parsed and that artwork will be displayed. at this point due to flash's restrictions this will only work with mp3 files. while flash will play other forms of music files, it only has support for mp3 file's metadata. flash is always improving so hopefully this will improve one day as well. ok so head over to the download section and get the new version and let me know what you think.
