My friend, this project looks great! By any chance, will NASAir be only a music/media player or will it have some sort of integrated GPS app? I'm looking to switch to MacOS, but not without an integrated GPS app
please post all NAS related bugs and feature requests here. thanks

as of right now it is just a music/media front end. i am actually debating about gps. i personally really want gps, it was half the reason i went with a carpc instead of just another headunit type setup. however in the mac word, a good gps is very hard to come by. there are virtually no native gps apps (route buddy is one, but it is still not in-car ready, and prob wont be for awhile). i have been contemplating rolling my own gps solution, and have some ideas on how to go about doing that, but that will def take a lot of work and time. currently the best option is to run a windows gps app in parallels or fusion inside of OSX. either way i am reviewing all my options before i just start hacking away at something. i will keep everybody posted if i come up with something, in the mean time if anybody has any ideas please feel free to post them here.

I think the best option is fusion with iGuidance or MapMonkey or w/e you like. I'm a programming noob (two years of java only) so I don't know if you can do this or not, but would there be a way that upon starting of the mac, fusion loads windows and windows loads the GPS program. The GPS program could then be "embeded" into the front end.
Your program looks great, but without a GPS solution, I probably wouldn't choose it over the simplicity of front row

this is another avenue that i had pondered. AMP does this same thing. it acutally has a "plugin" that lets you launch fusion or parrallels in which the gps app would load up. this is something that i will prob implement just until i can figure out how to go about my own.

Adding playlists from iTunes would be a nice addition to NAS.

this is definitely in the works for NAS. In fact it was the one of the inspirations for the re-write. I am in the process of encapsulating the entire music framework of NAS into a class that you pass an array of songs and it plays everything in that array. the only other part of the puzzle is figuring out how to get the itunes playlist files over to NAS to make sense of them. if somebody has some deep knowledge of the itunes playlist and how it works, or the file structure, please let me know
