xbox media center has an awesome functio nwhere it scans the hd and downloads the cd info based on directory structure and names u use, so u can use dir or list based
I dont like frodo, too complicated... Music 1, Music 2, Video 1, yada hate that....
Centrafuse isnt really directory based playing! dont misunderstand, being able to browse and add a directory to a playlist is useless if your music is already organized! In NMC I can play an entire directory structure without adding it to any useless playlist...
I can just select a root directory of an artist (that has a bunch of album directories) and it will start playing one by one... I can then go up a leve to another artist and play... go into a particular album and play...
no need to go into playlist editor, clear list, find album, add.... then change artists: go into playlist, clear, find, add, play....
it just acts like a large list which supports multiple levels (subdirectories)... playlists dont support "subdirectoris" which is why they suck IMO.
NMC is an ace at music handling! it offers directory structure straight in the player, as well as a playlist option which again bhaves like a directory. No it doesnt have a database, but like netsuo said, he wont be integrating a db in for deveral reasons for now...

What does that have to do with this?Originally Posted by nsmoller
Netsuo had the same tool in his early NMC release but didn't continue to use it.
There is a 3rd party app that does that for you.
Directory based is that way to go i think cause ALOT of people have it setup as artist then there albums in each sub directory.
Also the best thing is if u add more music into the directory its right there for you to play you don't have to update any databases (lets face it the bigger the colection the longer the database takes) and you also don't have to do a new playlist either.
I personally think NMC does the best way to play music and with it not having to depend on winamp or WMP it makes it all self contained and alot better in my eyes.
Only feature netsuo is missing is a next directory button thats about it.

Road Runner is directory based, too. How do you find NMC better? I'm just curious.
The thing I like about RR is that it's extremely customizable. For example, I set it up so that each time it loads a directory, songs are sorted by date modified. This way, I always listen to newly pirated, eh, legally ripped songs first.
Just the little things in NMC that make it better.
I did try RR cause i know alot of ppl like it and i was gonna use that instead of NMC till the update came as nmc had a problem on my system (fixed now) and i just didn't like it at all.
Just the way its setup and used just feels a bit cheap with the tv and audio player.
It is ofcourse not cheap and has had alot of work done so don't take me dissing it it just not for me it just not set out the way i want it.
Plus i like NMC for the way netsuo set it all up and made the ease to use it.
Plus when the new NMC comes out with dynamic skinning it will blow all the frontends awayas long as the bugs are fixed if any

I'm using RR at the moment because it is the only player that can itnegrate all the functions I need/use. However I'm hopping that this will soon be replaced with NMC when ti comes out.
and my friend, how does RR have directory playing? You have to add things to a playlist... which is exactly what I dont want! I want ONE filelist which serves as a player and browser... not 2 different things... I have yet to see the function found in NMC's "playlist" structure (directory playing) reproduced in any frontend (MMC also did it the same way as NMC but it is now unavailable apparently)
