I have two of those motherboards. I like them a lot. I have problems with a particular USB device on one of the motherboards with Windows. Same device on another motherboard of the same model under Linux works fine. The Windows one is also using an M2-ATX, and the Linux one a desktop PSU. So I'm still not sure if it's a driver issue or a power issue (it's a high-power USB device). See http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/revi...2k-review.html for details.

As for the CPU, I assume you're recycling it from an older system? If so, fine. Otherwise, if you're buying it, you can get an Athlon II 2.8 GHz dual-core for $63.

Everything is brand new, the reason I chose that CPU is, well, I didn't. It all comes in one package and I can get a really good deal on it. I just want to make sure it will work for my application.

I read all about the USB problems which makes me hesitant but that thread makes it look like it's a power issue, not a mobo issue based on some other posts. I don't have any high drain USB devices but I do have lots of devices (Sirius, GPS, TC, OBDII, etc).

Is the single core sufficient for a carpc? The biggest drain I can think of is maybe GPS + DVD running with RR at the same time.

I had the same motherboard and cpu in my previous installation and a 2 giga Kingston ram. It was very flashy with a lot programs on the hard drive. The only thing you have to be careful is to keep it cold. The 1640 produce a lot of heat.

Define flashy. Do you mean it was "stuttering" while performing tasks?

Would keeping it cool in +40C ambient be too difficult to be worth it?

That's pretty toasty. Make sure whatever case you put it in, it has lots of airflow. Cases like the VoomPC and MoCoSo cases probably wouldn't have enough airflow through them to keep it cool with +40C ambient temperatures.

I was planning on building my own case going off of blk02si's drawings. I have an 05 F-150 so his exact dimensions would fit perfectly. I'm wondering if the -30C weather would be a problem with that type of case though...

You have temperatures from -30 to +40C? Wow. Where do you live?

If I recall, hard drives won't operate at that low temperature. I think SSD's do, though.

I live in a semi-arid desert (+40)...in Canada (-30).

Anyways, is my only choice an SDD? Is this CPU too hot for me?

I mean that with that cpu the pc was fast. If you planing to make your own case with good airflow then you don't have any problem
