Simple Build, am I missing anything

Am I missing anything? I should be able to order everything in that list and be good right? Assume I have stuff like VGA cables a stuff.

One question, am I going to have buy an amp to power my speakers? I need to remove the OEM headunit. Can you recommended an amp to put between my sound card and my car speakers? I'm not an audio enthusiast by any means, I'll be happy if the sound is a good as it is right now with the OEM stuff.

Yes, you will need an amp if you remove the headunit.

Ebay is cheaper for dash kits. I'm looking at the kicker 10zx350.4 for an amp for me. I have only seen good reviews for it, but haven't bought it yet.

If you want radio they have HD radios that hook up to your antenna and then you hook it up to your computer. The Directed HD is what I have. For audio to your computer you can just run a y cable. Then to control it from your computer you can grab HDR-RS232. From there to connect that cable to usb you will have to find a USB to RS232 cable.

btw the cable as far as I know originated from Mitchjs, so you can also buy it off of his site, but regardless more information is located there as well on the forums about it.

mp3car also has BoomzBox HD Radio, but haven't looked into it at all.

you may, or may not need a amp-- it depends on the car.

it is tough to know your exact cars needs being that you didn't list your car model, or year...

some cars have factory amps that can allow you to connect something else to them(search for a aftermarket harness for your car-- it should have rca connectors on it)

other cars have factory amps that need higher voltage going to them, so you would need a amp just to connect to the factory stuff-- usually, the easier route here is just to add your own amp, bypassing the factory stuff.

other cars use the factory radio as a amp, so here, the easiest way is to add a aftermarket amp.

and yet other more expensive cars use CANBUS, or fiber-optic's to interface with the amps, sometimes running fiber-optic cable all the way to the speakers, and removing any of the factory audio equipment will cause extreme battery drain(in some CANBUS systems, the car will continue to 'look' for the amp, until it drains the battery..) these are extremely hard to interface with...

I think that is true for some MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) based buses, but not be true for most CAN systems :P.

MOST bus uses ring topology so when any node goes missing, you break the network. Some vehicles do a double-ring or star topology to avoid breakage, but even in a double ring, b0rkage happens when nodes disappear.

The CAN bus is a multi-master serial transport. I believe nodes can be added and removed to the bus without many issues (which is why most scantools can get on the CAN bus network without a problem).

From the quick research I just did on google it looks like I will be able to use the factory amp. I'll just need to get a conversion cable to from 3.5mm to RCA

i was trying to keep it simple. it rarely works...

Before I was getting a dash kit and a double din frame. With this dash kit it looks like I can just install the screen directly, yeah? Also, I'm screwing myself by being cheap on the screen? Is it worth the extra $25 for something like the Lilliput?
