Hi guys, I am completely new to all things carputer - done a good deal of car audio but nothing in this realm. I was hoping you guys could give me some advice regarding the subject. Hope I posted this in the right section- if not please move this mods
I have an 08 WRX, and I have a pioneer avh p4300dvd. The HU has a set of RCA-ins, and I was hoping to display a sort of digital dash using the RCA-ins. I have a Droid and have the app Torque, which uses a bluetooth OBD-II dongle to connect to the car and phone and displays realtime info to the phone. I was toying with the idea of building a little box that ran android and using that to run torque, then output video to the HU. However I don't know how I would control it, as I have no idea how I would make the box interface with the touchscreen. I used to be an IT tech and I've built lots of PCs before, but never done anything with Android. I know you can run Android from a PC, but that seems like overcomplicating things.
A geeky friend of mine suggested that I use an Android phone and remove the cellular radio, effectively giving me an extremely small Android-running computer. I suppose this could work... but it seems like there could be a better way.
The easy way out would be to just output video from my phone, but that's... meh.
What are your guys' thoughts on this? I really don't want to add another LCD. I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot; I don't claim to know much in this area
Thanks a lot
