Well, good luck with that. Looking at the list of components and capabilities, it doesn't look any different from any of the hundreds of car PC's that have come before.
Ok i'm new to the forms but Ima techie, IT gal. I have yet to see a real carpc on here.
All i see is ppl putting computers in there cars but using car software.
to me that defeats the purpose.
So I'm gonna do a real project and I need a little help from you.
I'm clueless to cars and audio.
So this is my proposed setup:
I have a 99 Honda Accord EX 4cyl
what I want to do:
screen: Lilliput 8" open frame touch screen
http://store.mp3car.com/Lilliput_8_4..._p/mon-117.htm
(I need help with the framing it. like what do I need to do? I want a factory look)
anti-glare screen cover:
http://www.amazon.com/ZAGG-invisible.../dp/B0038BZ8W8
my pc:
http://www.amazon.com/Zotac-MAG-Inte.../dp/B0030UH2J4
(I plan on taking it out of the housing and putting it in my factory dash unit behind the screen like this guy):
http://www.mp3car.com/fabrication/68...ps-indash.html
I don't want to build one. too expensive.
I'm gonna Run windows XP pro my custom edition w/ moovida media center for my music
internet radio
and I'm gonna use VR commander for my voice recognition
Nano bluetooth 2.1 dongle for my calls n route err thing through my GV
tether My HTC HD2 w/ Android I put on it for internet Tethering
buy a gps receiver for my phone for Car GPS [USB]
put in a laptop synaptic's touchpad next to my cig lighter for a mouse[gotta figure out if I can convert the cable to a usb and make it longer]
put in another cig lighter in my armrest for an inverter of some sort
install a switch in the dash for comp on/off. not auto with ignition start
any suggestions on how I can do my power? high performance battery? mouse options? EQ's for car audio?
My goal is to use my xp as my radio, dvd player, gps, bluetooth with no use for crappy car software gui's. [no offense]
thanks for listening

Want to:
-Find out about the new iBug iPad install?
-Find out about carPC's in just 5 minutes? View the Car PC 101 video
damn dats all i get? no insight? lol. thanks anyway
To be honest, I find your post a bit insulting. Many of us have been through generations of carPCs as the technology has developed over the years. I myself have build atleast 4.
A real carPC? Real CarPC's dont use inverters, they use a purpose built power supply for carPC's.
Anti glare cover? LMAO!! Look for a transflective TOUCHscreen, not a glidepad. You have to drive the car, not fumble with a glidepad. Thats a wreck waiting to happen.
A Laptop is not a REAL carPC, it's a laptop, maybe on a docking station, with a switch wired in.
As far as phone tethering, I've been doing that for years.
The so called "crappy software GUI's" you mention was a lot of HARD work and developing from LOTS of people. THese individuals didnt ask for money, and many give it away free so those of us who know what a REAL carPC is can have a way to interfaCE ALL THE real COMPONENTS OF A CARpc.
Not to come off as a jerk but you come on here and say "you have yet to see a real car PC", yet your proposed setup is novice. You should do more research before downing what others have, over years, put their knowledge together to come up with what today is considered a carPC. I remember using a tower with an inverter and LCD display through AUX in and a PS2 glide point almost 10 years ago. There were no 7" LCDs, just small B/W LCDs which display was sent through parallel.

Just what is your definition of a "Real car PC"?
MSI K9N6GM
1 gig RAM
8" Lilliput
Onstar GPS mod
XM
Visteon HDZ300
This is just too funny!I'll be keeping an eye on this to see were it goes.
Insulting the general membership and then asking them for assistance will probably not work in your favor.
I see a number of flaws in your plan, but you don't want my advice, since I don't have a "real" carPC.![]()
A car with a PC built in it. Duhh
======
jk. a "computer" built in the vehicle where as to enjoy entertainment and also monitor vehicle's condition as far as gauges and etc..
to me a CarPC is a computer that does it all from the desktop.
ex: XP desktop, media center controls my music. Radio is controlled by software. Voice recognition does everything also. with the added touch of a mouse somewhere flushed to look factory.
I don't like the gui's because to me there not...... I can't find a word. I guess they need more themes so to speak. more so let the user really customize the interface. guess I don't like the way most of them look. But there awesome. jus not for me.
I'm a Techie and I want to do everything I normally do on my laptop's desktop, on my Carputer
=======
am I wrong about this definition?
well add some insight then guy. tell me what am I doing wrong with my setup.
about the inverter i want to put one in for the use of repairing my clients computers on the go. not for my actual setup. [I didn't state that either so I can see how you assumed that]
I'm planning on wiring it to my battery. Thats why I came here. to get insight.
If you found some of my words insulting then my apologies. I'm not tryna upset nobody. jus tryna get help.
honestly i have had good experience with anti-glare protectors in the past. don't see how this will be different. do explain if you don't mind.
peace
