Hello all,
I've just bought a 2005 VW Passat - excellent car, not so good in-car system. So I'm keen to put a PC into the car.
I've spent a lot of time absorbing the basics here and elsewhere. what I'm looking for is
- small in-car unit able to handle
- mp3 collection
- GPS
- blutooth handsfree mobile
- Radio with RDS and traffic updates
- Video playback
- Wireless access from home network
- Double DIN head unit with amplifier, able to hook into what's in the car already (keep work to a minimum). VGA touchscreen required of course.
I'm not a hobbiest, I'd like this to work off the shelf where possibly, but I accept that I'll have to tinker to get it right. Ideally I want to source all the kit myself, and then get an installer to put the kit in. I want to do as little 'harm' as possible to my lovely new-to-me car!

I suggest to do the installation by yourself
this is a never ending project.
by installing everything yourself, you know exactly what's going on and what to do to improve
my install did absolutely no harm to the car. it can be removed without leaving any trace.
(no cutting, no drilling to car)
Honnestly, if you're not interested in doing the install your self, don't. If you're not fond of the idea, it will just cause problems.
There should be shops in your area that can install a PC for you. Currently, the all-in-one solutions are a bit slim in the pickings. We are going to be coming out with the G4 here in a few weeks. It might be a solution for you.
