Planning Phase help for ceiling mounted display

Hello, Im a long time lurker first time poster here!

I have a carputer project I've been planning for some time, but have just recently found the financial liberty to pursue (raise).

I own a 2004 Nissan 350z coupe, and I have looked at and studied the layouts others have posted using with this car, so Im familure with the 'standard' layout using the central dash for housing the touch screen.

Im planning on trying somthing a little different though!

I want to mount a 7" touch screen LCD on the ceiling in the cavity that currently houses the lights and sunglasses holder. It will be angled in such a manner that it will not interfere with my sight-line to the rearveiw mirror. For the purposes of this project this will be the 'master' display.

Im planning on moving the three center dash gauges (MFD, Oil Pressure, Battery Voltage) over to an A-Column mount to free up some real estate. The entire center portion of the dast will come out at this point, and a large (Im still figureing out specifics, but a 17" should fit if mounted with the long axis of the screen vertically) LCD will go in. For the purposes of this project this will be the 'slave' display.

Using the StreetDeck software suite and a little coding magic, I plan on setting the system up in such a manner that the master display will, in a context sensitive manner, display the controls for the slave displays currently active function. From the reading Ive done Im 99% sure this can be acheived by some custom skinning.

The PC itself has yet to be specced out, but the mounting will be in the compartment behind the passenger seat.

Im curious if anyone has ever attempted a roof mount for a display, and what the opinions are on my master-slave display concept.

    Thanks!

Sort of yeah sort of no. The 17" depends upon a little exploratory surgery I have planned for the dash. Basically, if its feasable to reposition two vents it will be do-able. More than likely it'll be a 15" though.

Im working on some mock-ups today, should have them posted soon to better explain my idea.

OK, no mock-ups yet, but heres some pics in a photobucket gallery with all of the rough measurements I took today. Im looking for some Nissan schematics of the car for some more exact measurements.
