in your situation, I suggest going with a pull out screen unit. Having the option to just listen to the radio, slap a cd in quickly and keeping your audio setup are all pros in your case.
Very glad to have become a recent member of this forums, was browsing around before I joined and there seem to be some very knowledgable people and some amazing projects on the go.
I have a 2001 Grand Am GT, a car which I love and am looking to put a carputer into it. It came with the fully loaded Monsoon system (I hear that has a stock amp hiding somewhere....) but I replaced the stock stereo with a Pioneer deck. I was just wondering which of the following some of you would suggest.
My deck has an Aux. In RCA port on the back. Although it is not a double-din setup, there is a second spot I can mount an indash LCD monitor. Do I replace the entire head unit with a touchscreen and redo the wiring for the sound? or do I keep the deck and just run the audio from the audio out on the computer to the Aux in on the deck?
My original thought was that keeping the deck would be easier, less things to mess with, and that way I could still play a CD or listen to the radio if I choose to. I am mainly putting the computer in my car to always have my MP3's with me, as well as to watch the occasional TV show haha, but sometimes its nice to listen to a friends CD now and again.
I appreciate any advice you can help. I am heading away with my school for a month but I plan to begin this project as soon as I get back home.
Thanks in advance!
I have a 2005 Grand am Its the Same as yours...
I plan on moving the Ac Controls and mounting a cd player there then a 8 inch screen were the Stereo is located.
The Stock amp for the monsoon is behind the carpet in the trunk!
