'06 350Z first carputer
I'm very new at carPC stuff, but old with cars and computers alike. But i still do have questions just like anyone else.
Heres what i'm thinking about doing, i'll break it down piece by piece and would love some negative input, and some positive too.
2006 350Z enthusiest 6MT
Stock Battery and alternator
Millage - 13,000miles
Motherboard - iGoLogic MBI3899-F Socket 478 Intel 945GM mini ITX
Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 Memrom 2.0GHz 4M shared L2 cache socket M
Power Supply - OPUS 150 watt DC-DC power Supply SFX.1215
Shutdown controller - CarPC Pro v2.5d - The Advanced ATX Power Controller
CPU cooler - Dynatron I61 40mm 2 Ball CPU cooler
Memory - A-Data 2GB (2x1GB) 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) dual channel kit desktop memory
Display/Screen - Mp3Car TRANS 7” VGA (sunlight readable)
Hard Disk Drive - Western Digital Caviar SE WD3200JB 320GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100
Hard Disk Drive cooler - SYBA CL-HD-FS02 Aluminum HDD cooler
CD/DVD - Sony Black 2MB Cache E-IDE/ATAPI Slim DVD Burner @ 8X
Amplifier - JL Audio 500/5
Subwoofer - JL Audio 10W3v3-2 (300W)
Headunit - Kenwood DDX6019 (6.95" w/DVD/MP3/VCD/WMA...)
Amplifier rack & Subwoofer enclosure - Zeneclosures
This is all that i have written down on my notepad to this point, after looking and searching for about 2 weeks now.
Now for the big question, is that power supply enough to do the job?
What i'm trying to do here is build up the quickest/fastest system with alot of space and flexibility, hence the DVD headunit, so the passenger can watch a movie and i can view my navigation for directions, simultaniously.
As far as mounting and placement goes, i'm planing on placing the whole system on a custom made rack behind the driver seat where the optional Bose subwoofer normally is, which i do not have in my car. The screen will be in a 2003 Cubby. Subwoofer will be placed in a Zeneclosures box, with the amplifier on the box with an amplifier rack.
I would really appretiate some input, be it negative or positive, since i don't want to go the wrong route. :peace:
what you doing that needs so much processor power... if nothing special, what you're getting is overkill...
and your whole idea stinks!!! (negative input)
Well that was interesting feed back...
Perhaps saying...for just GPS/mp3/video you don't need that much cpu...unless you have some fancy eyecandy to run.
There are power supply calculators in the hardware section (I believe...just search).
Of the top of my head I think the 150 may be a bit lite on power especially with the full size HD.
Also the OPUS has a built in shutdown controller...do you need a second one?
What video card will you be using? On board video?
Regarding to CPU power; If the choosen PSU can power you whole system, that is fine. There is never too much CPU horse power.
Since you already has the Opus, there is NO need for the CarPC Pro. The Opus already can do almost all the function that the carpc pro has.
So are you going with the flip up door or doing the GPS panel hardware from Nissan?

DodgeCummins - Thanks for ur advice, i will be using the onboard video card which has shared memory of 256MB i believe. I guess i didn't do my homework to find out that the OPUS has a shutdown controller too. Which DC-DC powersupply would u recommend?
MatrixPC - thanks for ur comments, so i guess i don't need a seperate controller.
Z1Truth - I have a 2006 and i will be using a 2003 Cubby since it doesn't have gear reducers and all the extra stuff, which means lesser cutting and hacking.

OK there farobaba........you better do some more home work. The 03 door will not fit your 06 Z. They made the 06 cubby door BIGGER! I know, I have a 06 and I tried and died. Sorry to break it to ya. Go to my350z.com and to the audio/mod section and search.
