    Project Budget, Experts opinion needed...

    hey,
this is my first post here, and i'm too glad finding this forum with many experts like you, and i realy admire your projects posted here and i hope we could share my and your knowledge...
first i decided lately to custom-build a carpc in my '74 beetle, but as the title said, it will be a budget project(a very tight one), because my spare money all gone in the new FI 2.0L engine running MS with EDIS. i need the carpc for mostly mp3 playback, movies, maybe GPS, interfacing with the ECU and rear camera...
i searched for the parts i need but i found that the minimum i could build will be with spending at least $800, and that is too far from my pocket.
so i searched more and found that some smart builders use out-of-shelf parts,
and then i decided to take your opinion here. i have a complete old MotherBoard(too big but i have plenty of space), with pentium 3 1.4GHz processor, 256mb RAM, 40GB HD, 4 USBs, sound card and 32mb VGA card.
so i'm thinking of using this parts, and i knew that the touch screen is a must so i will get it for around $300.
    now my question is:
what is the other parts and i need(like the dc-dc converter and sound output 'thing')???

Yes, this forum has lots of answers for your type questions.

If you have never built a computer before...then I would suggest building one in your house...make sure it works to your liking...then stuff it in the car.

I assume you will stick it under the hood (over gas tank)...seems to me the 74 beetles were a bit tight underhood...with AC and things...and the fancy dash.

Power will be your big decision. So search for power supplies...look at folks installs, and read their specs.

Sound output might be important to you...sound card sure...and some way to get it to the HU.

    thank's for your reply,
i've built many desktop pcs from the old pentiumS to the new due core, but the problem is i don't know much about instalation in the car because of the deffrent power supply and is it's wiring is like the regular pc power supply or somthing different?, my other concern is the audio output, i have an audio amp currently installed in the car, so the output will be feed it directly, but i don't want to dump the HU because of the radio, and the HU don't have an AUX input...
    sorry for my many questions,
any help will be appreciated(or any links to similar installs)...
and excuse my poor english ...
