New System Need some help with boot time (Jetway Board) in rx7

The goods that I have:

Jetway Via C7 2.0Ghz (J7F2WE2G)
1Gb DDR2 Kingston Ram
Lilliput 629 7" Touchscreen
Seagate 160Gb SATA HD
200W PW-200-M Power supply
Cyber Ninja Keyboard (Illuminates blue)

Running windows XP Pro for now. Will be installing raod runner as a front end.

I just have a few questions, especially for the people that are using this board . What kind of boot time are you guys getting. I'm seeing about 60 seconds right now and would reall like to have it brought down to somewhere half that.

I tried looking for a memory check disable in the BIOS without seeing anything for that? Any clue where I would find something?

Ok, you say you have 60s boot times, that is way too slow. But how is that divided?

How long from button/sdc on to the black xp screen with the horizontal scrolling bar, and then from that screen to the welcome screen (blue, says "welcome"), and then from that to music?

To get section 1 faster (initial on to welcome screen) you need to mess with the BIOS.

The "memory thing" which you speak of is now usually called "quick boot" or "fast boot". Should be on the first page.

Other things to do, is where you see the IDE channels, it probably says auto. Well that takes time. So go to that menu, click detect HD, write those settings down, and then disable auto detect of the HD. Now add those settings you wrote down to that same menu. Now instead of polling all the channels figuring out what goes where, it knows because you told it.

Now make HD-0 the primary boot device. Disable boot #1 and boot #2. Disable boot from other devices. Disable USB support in the BIOS and DOS. Of course if you only have a usb keyboard, dont do it. Best to find an old PS2 keyboard for when you need to get back in the BIOS.

Disable the full screen logo. Disable floppy. Basically everything that is fluff.

Oh, and for section #2, that is pretty much loading all your drivers and everything. It should be the fastest, and will get progressively slower the more crap you add. That is why your computer from 2002 that had XP installed or takes a while to get through that part, and your brand spankin' new system wont.

For section #3, that is all the services. Disable windows firewall, disable windows antivirus, disable all the services you dont need (msn messenger is notorious for starting on boot, so dfisable that) as well as all the little background services that run with all the programs you install. Such as adobe acrobat has this service that always runs that basically looks for updates. Same with Norton, they are horrible. They have a few processes always running checking things. In a car, you dont need it.

Almost wish I had not sold my old 84 Rx7 That was a fun car.

At one point I thought about putting a Rotary Engineering 13B Turbo in it but that would have cost me about 10 grand with everything else I'd have to upgrade.
