I'm looking around for more information, but I'm not quite familiar with the lingo yet and so find it difficult to explain exactly what I want or what it is called - but I am making progress!! Thanks for your info!
Search on terms "Phidgets" or "relay board". Take a look at 2K1Toaster's fusion relay board. Look up user Maestro, he's got a long running thread on A/C controls.
Basically, you'll need a way to convert a click of a computer button or control movement into mechanical motion. If your controls are electro-mechanical (that is, switches) then you can use relays to simulate their operation. If they are vacuum or mechanical, you'll probably have to add servos to mimic the motion and figure out how to control them from the computer.
This isn't all that difficult, but you'll probably have to code some of the software yourself and it will take a lot of experimentation.
