A firewire slot loading drive seems to be the ticket
I'm guessing that somebody has done this, but I didn't really know what to search for and I haven't seen one yet. Do people put optical drives in their dash, like a dvd drive to play a dvd someone rented or something? If people do this, do they use a super long IDE cable or do they get a serial ATA optical drive or what?
Thanks

Hey thanks for the reply. I couldn't find any of these drives on newegg, what is the most common brand?

Ah that's a good idea as well. That would make it easier then buying a special firewire drive.
I thought the MP3 store had them,, but firewire slot load drives can be found here

there are a few slot loaded drives on ebay but when i searched slot loaded drive only 1 came up so u might have to browse through a few pages in the cd/dvd drive catagory the price wasnt to bad on some of them though
Do the firewire drives have advantageous over the IDE -> USB drives?

If you use something like that, a USB to IDE converter, than you can use a variety of different drives and you can find em cheap usually...
As far as I know, firewire drives are expensive. That would be the only difference that I can think of.
I second that question though, whats the advantages of firewire over usb, and vice versa....

Firewire permits a cable length of 15 feet, and you don't need to supply a seperate power cable.
