Really, the radio seems to have the male connector because it has the little probe thing in the middle , but the cable is most always the male connector in most configurations, so they are probably referring to the cable as the male end.
OK, please no jokes. With the Motorola Male & Female it is quite easy to tell, no explanation ever needed. But this OEM cable looks like either end could be the male/female.
The first one is the back of the stereo, and the second two are different shots of the cable that I need to convert to a Motorola Male.
I'm assuming the black cable is the female, BUT since it goes into the silver connector in the stereo it could just as well be the male. Below is the part that I ordered (had a free credit) which claims to be OEM female to Motorola male.

Yeah, I tried to rationalize and figure it logically too, but I was hoping someone in here would KNOW the answer.![]()
Just got the part that I ordered today. I haven't opened up the dash yet, but it appears that it is a male to male. The end on the left in the photo above shold slide into the black end in the car. Unlike on the back of the stereo which has an additional metal ring that the black slides into. So, although I still don't know the technical answer to my question, looks like I bought the right part. And the part on the back of the stereo (and my cable) appears to be both male & female...
The connectors are male or female, not the cable itself.
And Arrow is correct. The connector in the top pic is male. The second pic is female.
