Start here: New to CarPCs? Don't know where to start?
Frankly, that's horrible advice in my opinion.
1 - There's more to a car PC than just a screen and a front-end.
2 - The in-dash screens are problematic, as a general rule. They're new to market and have teething problems.
3 - You answered none of the OP's questions, only suggested a front-end and a screen.
4 - There are more options for frontends than StreetDeck. While it's a fine piece of software, it's also not the only option. Besides, SD doesn't have any navigation options for Australia, so that would be useless to the OP.
Instead of getting a computer for a sound card why not get a sound card for your computer..this one seems decent: http://cgi.ebay.com/Creative-Labs-So...QQcmdZViewItem

Why would it have to be slimline?
There are lots of members who use a Shuttle system or a full-szed case that allows PCI cards.
Besides, there are right-angle PCI risers that will allow a PCI card to run parallel to the motherboard for some slim cases.
There are also USB equivilants of most PCI cards, as well.
