Hey Pint, how do you plan to connect your computer to your speakers? If through headunit, most have pre-amped outputs anyway, and if not (HU-less) then you'll need an amp anyway to connect your speakers.
I'm in the process of installing a car PC. The JETWAY mini ITX machine I have has an onboard 'Software Audio Controller with 6-Channel CODEC Compliant to AC 97'' I've pluged some headphones into the jacks and the sound I get out is really crappy. My question is do I need an AMP. If so can anyone recommend a small (dimension wise) 4 channel amp I can hide away under the dash. I've got six factory speakers in my car. Four big speakers and 2 littel speakers.

My computer has an on board sound card with 3.5 jacks. I thought I could connect these up to my speakers. Sounds like I thought wrong.
All have is a computer, a screen and speakers, so I don't think I have a headunit. It sounds like I need an AMP.
Can anyone suggest a small amp I can hide away under the dash. I have 6 speakers so do I need a 4 channel or 2 channel?
How are you going to power those speakers? You have to provide power to speakers. This is why amplifier exist. Computer speakers are powered (that's why you plug them into the wall...). Head phones are small enough that they do not need much power.
You need to research further about amplifiers and how they integrate with your factory system. Not all factory systems can just have an amplifier attached to the speakers on a whim. Sometimes you have to use adapters to make them work.

Okay. I get it. I need an amp.... the question I have is what is the difference between 2 channels and 4 channels and if I have six speakers (2 tweaters + 4 ) which one do I go for?
2 Channels = left and right (ie your balance control)
4 Chalnnels = Left and right, front and rear (ie your "fader control")
Your speakers will be connected to your amp via a crossover to filter the highs from the woofer, and to filter the bass from the tweeter. Tweeter + woofer are one channel.
So in your application you would have woofers in each door, two tweeters in your front doors, so 4 channels (one channel for each door).
I believe the smallest amplifier (physical size) on the market would be the Alpine PDX 4.100.
Alpine PDX 4.100 it is then. Bought one on Ebay. My wifes' gonna kill me.
