Laptop w/dead battery

I have an Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop with a battery that will not charge. I want to use it for a car pc. Once installed I don't plan on removing it. I really don't want to have to buy the docking station. I don't care about disassembling the laptop. What do I need as far as power supply, switching on and off, etc. I tried looking for step by step installs for what I plan on doing, but I can't find anything. Help me please.

Good question. If you are using a laptop you will need one of two things, the original power adapter and a 12v to 110v power inverter or a 12v to your laptop power adapter. Either are good options. Check my sig for what I did with one laptop and a power inverter. Oh, also, I'd look into buying a used battery that works. It will help keep your PC alive when the car starts, or in case you want to make it hibernate.
