    Thanks Uraijit,
When I disconnect the cables the computer powers up.
When I connect them it is the same as hitting the off switch. It just loses power altogether and switches off.
    This happens consistently.
I'm not intending to use a lot of peripherals. -

    An internal DVD drive,
    2 powered usb hubs for
    A blue tooth dongle
    silabs radio
    griffen volume controller

As a last resort I'll get another PSU. I'm just waiting to see what the M2 ATX mini-box.com people say.
    Things to do
    • Bluetooth handsfree / Tidy up dash fabrication / Improve startup-shutdown time.

Good luck getting it worked out. If they don't get you taken care of, a 120 should be plenty suficent for your needs.

    Thanks Urajit,
Last resort has come around quickly. I've ordered an Opus. I'm pretty sure the M2 is not right. It starts the motherboard okay but then after a few seconds it shuts it down. I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to do that. I'll send it back under warrenty when the OPUS arrives. I've add a switch to the 12v live so I can use it as a straight PSU. At least I can get it back in the car, whilst I'm waiting for the OPUS.

I got rid of the Molex connectors and replaced them with just spade connectors because they weren't giving me a good connection. In fact they are *****.

I also took at the DVD drive - There's no room for it with it's big ugly 40 pin ribbon cable. I'll see if I can source a shorter cable. The ribbon cable was damaged becuase it was such a tight squeeze.

Where's the question....? The question is -
How do I move this thread to a work log?

My OPUS 120W arrived but unfortunelty it does not fit in the VOOM PC case. It is slightly too wide and too long.
Stupid question, but is there anyway to make it fit...... probably not. Silly question really.

I guess I'll just exchange it.....

Hi, i have a very similar problem with a similar setup...

i have Voom2PC with M2 ATX power supply. i am installing it into a small bus connected to a auxiliary 12V battery bank (as the bus is 24V). i have other things connected to this aux bats (including a 2 Farad Capacitor, 6x100W AMP & also 600W pure sine wave inverter) that work fine, that is not the problem.

so i initially connected the white cable which would normally go to ignition, to a simple switch. reads 12V on / 0V off.

at first i couldnt even get the PC to power up - it would begin to for a sec, then everything would stop with no power to anything, no LED. then in switching it off, the LED would flash once every ~3 seconds.

i can now get it to power & boot up with no probs only if the RMT AMP is not plugged in AND the on/off switch is connected straight to the red main power in. it will not power up with the switch connected to the white? and interesting thing is the RMT AMP out from the PC reads only 3+Volts (instead of what i thought should be 12V) when PC is operating and 1V when turned off. is that normal?

now heres whats got me even more confused... while testing various wires with a digi multimeter, i managed to get it to work as it properly should (with RMT AMP connected and switch to white) - but only when i had the multimeter connected to the RMT AMP (and GND) and the multimeter set to read 200 Ohm resistance or on the Capacitor setting.... i could just leave that multimeter on and the PC would power up perfectly with the switch and the AMP would turn on remotely like its supposed to.... anyone know what this means?

traveling around with a multimeter plugged into the PC constantly is absurd, so i've wired it back to switch the mains in power and a separate switch to turn on my amp. at least ive got it going albeit wired differently - a downside is that turning the power switch off whilst the PC is on will not initiate proper shutdown, just cut power instantly.

if anyone has any ideas? or Pint have you found a solution .... would be much appreciated.

    kind regards,
    Mike

    I had a number of problems -
    1. I didn't have the M2 ATX connected properly... check that if is connected properly as per the manual i.e the diagram in post #7
    2. I had a lot of problems with the Molex connectors that don't provide very good contact - check these.
    3. I had simalar problems with my PSU. I couldn't get it to boot properly. It started for a second an then failed. I got around this by disconneciting the motherboard on/off switch (J8). This enabled to PC to startup. ( I have read that switch the polarity if the lead somtimes helps - although it didn't help me)

If you can power up the AMP your amp is okay.
If your motherboard starts up your motherboard is okay.

I suspect that it's your PSU that's causing you grief, which is what my problem was. Since installing the replacement on my machine I haven't had any problems.

I have to mention that at the same time my mother board starting playing up and I ended up replacing that too. I think this was just co-incidental though.

If I get a chance I will ckeck the voltage from the AMP RMT wire.

    good luck
