Alright I will start off with the problems I have no idea how to fix. I have just purchased and installed a liliput 7" indash touchscreen, and a car pc with the M1-ATX power supply. I boot the computer and I get sound for a little while, as soon as I play a song the sound starts cutting in and out. Anyone know why? Second is a problem but I may know the solution. I get a high pitched buzzing noise through the speakers when the computer is running. I believe it is a problem called "ground looping" or something like that. The computer ground is wired to my sub-amp ground, if I move the ground to the head unit ground, will that fix the problem? And last, I wired the white ignition wire, to the white wire coming off of my iginition, when the jumper settings are set to anything other than the setting that is the "act like a normal power supply setting" it will not boot, how do i tell if i wired it to the correct wire?
Specific wiring questions won't be solved if we don't know what car the PC is in, as many manufacturers use different wiring colours for the same thing. As for the ground, I would certainly suggest running your own dedicated ground wire (and as short as possible, too) to somewhere on the car.
Other things like your sound problem might be a driver situation - does it do this when connected to regular PC desktop speakers as well?
It's a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon. I haven't tried regular computer speakers yet, I will try that tomorrow, when I attempt to move the ground connection. Thanks.
Ok I tried changeing the cable and useing regular speakes, neither worked, so I am going out and getting a new sound card now. I haven't moved the ground yet, but if anyone knows about the iginition wire, please let me know.
Use a voltmeter or test light. Don't just match color wires.
Use a test light to make sure that white wire is only on with ignition on.
The red wire goes straight to positive on the battery, and the black to a GOOD ground, or to the same ground as the amp, but not AT or on the amp.
Worry about the buzzing sound later...get the PC going first, then read this.
I got lazy and bought a ground loop isolater at Walmart, the thing removed ALL my noise including alternator whine. It's better to not use an isolater though as it removes sound quality.
