Hi all!
As you might guess, I'm new to carpc... been reading the tons of information already in this forum.. I'm thoroughly overwhelmed by the information. It's going to take me months to figure out how to start correctly
Before I go back to reading all the various "newbie" FAQs again, ... I noticed that a lot of installs have experienced more than 2 Motherboard failures. Some are due to overheating, and some are due to unnatural causes.... Can anyone suggest the common causes of these MB failures? Is there a particular brand that's more susceptible to breaking?
Thanks heaps!
Continued Worklog... Upgrades in progress:
*15.4" WXGA LED backlight touchscreen upgrade
*Custom fiberglass dash bezel
thanks for that!... i'm in sydney... i might "harrass" you about this as I find out more about what I need to do... (less time difference...)..
Cheers!
A lot of installs have had mobo failure?
well.. i'm sure I've only read maybe .01% of all the installs done here... but the ones that I've read seems to include issues with the mobo, i.e. replacing them through warranty, or actually replacing them with another mobo..... just thot I'd check what's the best one out there, where you can be almost sure that you don't have to dismantle your car numerous times...
There were a number of motherboards that had capacitor failure. Some were replaced for free from the company...some you had to get fixed yourself.
But it had nothing to do with being in a car, and everything to do with shoddy materials.
The only way to avoid that with an older mobo is to ensure it has a certain brand of capacitor on it...I don't remember the brand, but if you search the internets you will find tons of info on it.
As far as other mobo failures...there are some cheap brands out there...
