    Carpc Store Pc

    Hey Guys,

After some research I have found that it may be easiest as the very first project I do, to just buy a pre-built computer, just to lower the variables of things that can go wrong. Anyways, I'm really wanting to use a Power Inverter, because it seems like the easier route #1, and also because I dont want to have to do any wiring if possible that isn't as simple as getting extension cables etc.

I know with the Power Inverter, to get the pc to start when you turn on your ignition you have to wire it in with the ignition, which again I dont really want to have to do. I want the:

Car Computer Package DEAL! NICELY EQUIPPED
    Our Price: $474.95
    Sale Price: $399.99

Vague I know but that is the product name. As far as whats included with the Power Supply, it states "Battery deep discharge prevention
    - High efficiency, 90 watts output
    - "Anti-Thump" Amplifier remote control (mini-blade)"

So anyways i'm wondering, I know there are "start-up and shutdown controllers" that sound like they do what I want them to do, but i'm not exactly sure what i'm getting with this carpc. Is it a dc-dc? Dont they have a onboard controller of types that shuts off the pc when the battery gets to a certain level of charge?

I'm not sure if this was appropriete for the PSU Area or this, because it is a somewhat newbie type question.

Anyways, any help you can provide is greatly appreciated

Anti-thump and 90W sounds like the M1-ATX. What store are you buying this from? Link would be useful.

    The M1 is a DC-DC.

And unless you buy a G4 or a T3, you will be running wires. If your plan is to plug in an inverter into a cigarette lighter, make sure you have full coverage insurance and low deductable because when your car goes up in flames, you dont want to be stuck with the bill.

Do it right the first time. Nothing wrong with buying a pre-built, but the only no-hassle prebuilts are the G4 and the T3 which are very low power and plug into the HUs wiring harness.

This is the Mp3 Store. I'm looking to not spend too much though for the system, what am I looking at as far as price for one, and is the T4 and G3 a dc to dc or what type of power supply is it?

Well the system for $400 is not bad. And yes it is a M1-ATX. In the store under DC-DC Power supplies you can find more info on it if needed.

And the G4 and T3 are prebuilt all in one systems with screens as well. Fits in a double din area.

Any other system is going to require you to run a line from your battery. The wires under the dash are not meant to transfer the power a PC requires.

Oh, the ones that are like 2 grand Hmm, well that's not good lol. So with the system that I linked you to, I would have to drill through the firewall and connect a wire to the battery?

    With money come ease.

And yes. With that system and with every system you need a dedicated wire. Usually there is an unused grommet or something.

Is there anyone I can hire to do this? Just this is my first car, being a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2000, and I dont want to screw anything up, and then not know anything about electricity to be able to fix it lol. Any recommendations?

Do you mean an opened hole in the firewall? Like, the Grommet is in the firewall? I bet finding it is like a needle in a haystack lol

Take it to any car audio install shop from a local store to Circuit City and tell them to install it like an amp and that you want VGA and USB cables run to the dash and they will do it.

Keep in mind you need to have a screen too. I would buy a spare dash piece and make it on that so if you screw up, you arent out much.

Look around on the forums for some inspiration.

Oh I get it so they install the cable just as if it was an amp? I'll go get an actual quote but do you have any idea of how much this will cost me? And what do I call the wire running from the battery to the PSU, and what size? This is just so I can tell the shop exactly what cable. I know im pinchin' pennies here so thank you for being so kind in helping. With the original pre-built I showed you, now the Battery Discharge Prevention it comes with, does this mean it will shutoff when the battery gets to low to start? How does the system know when I still have enough for the starter?

Finally, I know its probably around here somewhere but while im at it i'll ask, what can I buy to toggle the carpc on and of when I want it. Will it just automatically turn on and off with the ignition, or do I have to wire that if I want that feature as well. If not, do I have to literally push on the button on the case? The pc will be in the back so...
