Car PC setup/advice

Hey there,

Well I just signed up and I would be classed as a newbie, so I just wanted to introduce myself, and my setup.

I'm Australia, and own a 1962 EJ Holden - it's nearly finished and being restored to its former glory - and before its finished, I wanted too add a nice sound and carPC system. Old skool + technology!

I guess I will start of with what I have -

6.5" Hertz HSK 165 Splits - 120wrms rear speakers
6.5" Generic splits - 100wrms or 75wrms not much. front speakers
15" Cadence Sub 480wrms - subwoofer... duh!
Response 2x150wrms or bridged 500wrms - sub's amp
Response 4x100wrms - front's and rear's amp
Soundblaster Audigy NX 2
VIA EPIA 10000LN - I think, it's definitely a 10000
Samsung 15gig 3.5" HDD
Wires - all the wires I need... err I hope

What I need to get -

Touchscreen - 7" will do
Regulator - run the touchscreen, audigy and carPC
PSU - for the VIA EPIA Mobo
Second Battery in boot - Deep cycle something

Have I missed anything?

Question now is what parts should I get?

I had listed -

Lilliput 7" 619GL
Carnetix CNX P1900 + Extra 15W regulator - because I am running both LCD and Audigy
PSU -M2 - ATX HV 160W - do I need this much?

Also I want to run a POWERED USB hub, can that also fit onto the P1900 or do I need another regulator?
As for power is this all too much? I was reading about power channels, and stuff like that, seems like this will work, but is it too overrated?

and just a few extra comments -

Unsure if I will upgrade the front splits, they're going to cop a flogging where they're located.
I've tested the Audigy setup through my laptop, its awesome! and I also have a 120gig 2.5" external USB HDD for my tunes the 15gig is purely system files. I also plan on running a GPS and other USB devices (camera etc).

So please comment or give advice - all welcome!

The LCD comes with an "egg" that regulates power already. You dont need extra regulation, just make sure you use it.

Get the regular M2, as I have no idea what the M2 HV is but the regular M2 is a good buy.

You may want to purchase a case. The Ampie/VoomPC cases are made for the itx boards and a M2 and a 2.5" drive. I found a case that accepts 3.5" drives before, but it was rather ugly. I use a 3.5" so it sort of limits case selection.

Thanks mate, for your advice 2k1Toaster, I want to make the purchase today hopefully.

As for the case, I was probably just going to mount in all in a custom case made from mdf or something, got tons of spare motherboard risers, I can just slip it in behind the wheel arch, it's massive is these cars!

Welcome mate, another aussie. Get the M2-ATX thats all you should need although I dont know how much the sound card chews. You will be able to run these devices off the 12v rail from the M2,all the regulation you need. Careful running older hdds, the older technology seams more susceptible to vibrations, be prepared to replace it dwn the track. How are you planning to mount the lcd?

Okay so I don't need the Carnetix regulator??

Yeah, I figured vibration would be a problem, I've been trying to pick a cheap small 2.5" hdd of ebay but have really found much, but I figured may as well use what I had to start with.

As for mounting the LCD, hmm in the glove box on some sort of a slide system (yeah alot of work) but I am worried about sunlight so maybe I might get it to fold down underneath, then I am worried about people kicking/kneeing it. I can buy a centre console and mounting it in that is also an option. I really wanted to get the LCD first and just see how it looks, and where is the best position would be.

I might take a picture of the dash for comments and idea!
