OK so I have been getting really excited about trying to design my own interface for my macbook or other laptop for my car, with a possible permanent Carputer to come down the road.
My plan is to pull the radio out and replace it with a 7" Touch Screen found here on Mp3Car (the Lilliput was the one that caught my eye) and my Saab 9-5 has more than enough room in the glovebox to hide my macbook if i run the wires into it.
The main problem i can forsee is how to wire the 8 speaker setup into a USB or Stereo Plug that can plug into my Macbook, as my knowledge of car stereos, while more than your average joe, is still fairly limited. would an amp of some sort solve this problem? because even if i could find a way to wire them i can't figure out how i could get enough juice to these to power them.
If i was a bit to wordy- essentially what i'm trying to figure outhow to do is run my car's speaker system WITHOUT a traditional radio.
you definitely need an amplifier. PC's audio output needs to be amplified to be routed to speakers.
Many modern cars have built-in, separate amps, so you may want to check on that...
From what I understand the saab does have a built in amp but it's proprietary and heard that will cause issues, AND i'm not sure if it's separate or built into the head unit. Anyone know of a good resource where i can look it up w/o pulling everything apart?
so can we wire the car puter into this amp , cant seem to fine an answer?
What if you run the macbook to an auxiliary port?
