Misc tech questions for a newbie

Hey guys new to the fourm.. Ive been peicing together my car pc for the last month. here is my setup in my lexus SC400..

    Dell SX260
am unsing the DSX12VD 140W DC-DC Regulator to power the dell.
    Lilliput 629GL
    Pharos 360 GPS(microsofts gps reciver)
    Road Runner with DFX 2.0

My question for you guys are...

    1. when I hit the power for the pc i have it enabled to Stand-by... Ive noticed that there are still lights on the mother board/usb attached devices...Is there a way to completly put the computer in stand by? and or will this kill my battery..

    2. When my computer is turn on from standby all the music that i had playing prior to going on standby is gone and it just says winamp..? whats up with that.. (would my version on winamp have anything to do with this?)

    3. Why is there a blank/white cut out for my speed in gps stats??

    Thanks guys!!!

The lights are still on because the USB devices still receive power while the computer is in standby. In most cases, this is to ensure that the computer can still recognise the devices after resuming from standby.

I'm assuming you have it setup to go into standby to reduce boot-time.
Depending on the power consumption of your PC while it's in standby, and your battery's capacity, you may find this a problem if you leave it for a few days then come back to find you can't start your car.
You're probably better off hibernating the PC (and doing a proper shutdown and reboot about once a week to clear off any nasty temporary files and the like).

Taking a stab, I'd say that yes, it probably is your version of winamp. It could also be to do with RoadRunner.

Question 3 I can't help you with, I've no idea what you're talking about.

Hope I've been of some help.

The computer IS completely in standby. The PC needs to maintain 5v power for the RAM to maintain the system state. If this is lost, you'll do a fuil reboot next time.
Yes, it will drain your battery.

If you want to shut off all power, use hibernate instead of standby.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?
