    Infill G4 style possible?

    Hi I am looking at putting together a system for my Jeep GrandCherokee 05.

    I would use the system for GPS, RAdio/XMradio, MP3's, and DVD. I love the factory look, but am not sure I can achieve it. I would like to have the look of the screen only with the DVD slot behind it like int the Infill G4.

    I dont want to put in an external amp, and while I could live with the look of a screen and a HU together, I would prefer for the screen to be the HU...does that make sense?

    I havent seen pieces for sale that would allow me to achieve this, have I missed something or is it not possible?

    The hardest part will be getting the 6.5" screen. There are 6.5" LCD panels but no controllers available in single quantities. Most people go with 7" and either have the DVD drive elsewhere or no DVD (use USB thumb drive or something instead). I am putting a USB DVD in the glove box.

    Or you can go for the Double Din screen w/ built in slot DVD that will be coming out for sale soon. There is a big thread about it here, just search for Double Din.

    There are plenty of motherboards that will fit in the dash behind the screen. There is a sticky that lists some good ones. Then get a small drive, XM adapter via serial or USB, AM/FM radio with w/ 4 channel amp via USB, GPS module via USB or serial. Cram it all behind your screen w/ cooling and power supply.

    You will also need to carefully choose software for your front-end and other uses.

    Easier said than done, of course...but all of the info is available on these forums by searching.

    The first version of the double din screen/dvd combo is already for sale. Panda and DigitalWW have them. It has a 6.5" screen and a motorized face that tilts down a bit to expose the dvd drive that connects via USB. THere have been problems I think with the buttons on the unit, but other than that I think it is awesome. But this ease of installation comes at a price... A $650 price...

    I did see the sticky on the mobo's so a solution there wont be a problem. I guess it was more the radio and dvd/cd with screen solutions that I couldnt see an answer to. I will have a look at what you posted.

    I am really liking the look of that Digital WW screen:
    This is a true ALL-IN-ONE unit. Besides the VGA and Video inputs it has a rear view camera input. This is the first VGA monitor to have a real automotive Radio Tuner and built in AMP. Another great feature is a built in DVD drive that can be connected to your computer. There is also a Power/Reset button that allows greater control of your PC.
    I am wondering how much room there is behind that bracket to install the rest of the computer, I guess I could always use under the seat or the glove box.

    To complete the system I would still need:
    Disk drive, XM adapter, GPS module, cooling and power supply, ram, and video/tv tuner.

    Do you prefer USB connections or serial?

    I looked into the frontend options and Centrafuse looks slick, that would serve my purposes wouldnt it? I think with GPS it comes @ $275

    With all that stuff it should still be cheaper than the Infill G4.

    RoadRunner is a bit cheaper than CF...

    Although people swear by both Centrafuse and Streetdeck. Best thing you can do is download the trial. StreetDeck is 30day trial (has nav built in), and Centrafuse I am not sure of the length, and RoadRunner being free, you dont really need a trial. Try them out, see what you think.

    Also for SD and Centrafuse (CF the most), dont expect to get away with a M10k or something. You need more power than that.

    I guess I can worry about the Frontend after I actually have some gear but thanks I will bookmark your suggestions.

    Had a thought earlier, will frontend software have a problem controlling the radio or DVD that is built in? What I mean is that the HU comes stock with these things(radio and DVD), will it be hard to get my PC/Frontend to takeover?

    No sorry I was refering to the DWW-6500 double din screen/DVD/Tuner combo that I was shown earlier in the thread.
